It is a pity that we only had 2 hours to explore Merano since only stopped here on our way to Bolzano. The place is amazing and there is a lot to see. In my next trip to North Italy, 2 or 3 days in Merano will be part of my Itinerary

Merano 2000 is a wide-open panorama, with long walks from which you can look down thousands of feet, or across for miles. there are one or two good café/restaurants up there, and the nearest is about forty minutes of fairly easy walking from the cable-car station; the view from that café/restaurant is one of the greatest I've seen.

Nice to visit for a drink or bite but we also visited a free concert of an orchestra of the neighborhood which played impeccable.

Which we attended last night gave us the chance to appreciate this venue. The theater itself is not that impressive. Some painted artwork on the arched ceiling sort of perks the place up. The entryways to the theater on various levels are much more attractive. I recognize this is not such a beauty as are the opera houses in major European capitols, and that certainly is not its primary use. It seems to be a multipurpose facility. I can see it being used as a ballroom for there is no permanent seating. I'm glad we went for the music was quite good on the whole.

We enjoyed a concert here on a Sunday morning performed by an enthusiastic and youthful orchestra. The perfect setting!

Art nouveau Jugen style very elegant building first opened in 1874, from November until June hosts a rich program of concerts, ballet, theatre and recitals but in Summer there are very special guests orchestras and soloists so you can ask your hotel to book tickets in advance in order to be one of the lucky spectators of the events.

Attention: The pic doesn't show the Kurhaus, maybe the Merano Theatre, which is also worth seeing. The Kurhaus itself is the biggest hall in town, capacity around 1000 persons for concerts, beautifull "Jugenstil"-architecture, built before 1914, well preserved.

CEntrally situated on the northern promenade of the Passer river and right in the centre of town. This is a beautiful concert hall. We were fortunate to be visiting whilst the South Tirol music festival was taking place in Merano and saw a wonderful concert by the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Later saw a very professional free concert by the Merano town band. Both wonderful.

A place that is beautiful at any time of the year. In summer don't miss a famous jazz festival, in spring and autumn it's a place for exhibitions. Now on Christmas time it's the heart of the main Christmas bazaar with lots of local goods.
