Insights into exotic Mediterranean landscapes and views of the surrounding...

Insights into exotic Mediterranean landscapes and views of the surrounding mountain chains and sun-kissed Merano: The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle comprises eighty natural and cultivated landscapes nestled into a natural amphitheatre, a wide array of themed gardens, and numerous Artist Pavilions and Experience Stations. Visitors find the extraordinary combination of nature, culture and art at South Tyrol's most popular attraction absolutely enchanting. The interplay of historical and contemporary architecture, a rich variety of events, and seasonal blooming throughout the course of the year all make Trauttmansdorff an experience for all five senses and for visitors of all ages. After being named Italy's Most Beautiful Garden in 2005 and Europe's No. 6 Garden in 2006, Trauttmansdorff was honored with the International Garden of the Year award in 2013, thus joining the ranks of the world's most important and beautiful gardens and parks. The Touriseum, the spirited museum housed inside Trauttmansdorff Castle, now spotlights recent tourism history and features new exhibits about the castle's VIP guests.

Superb gardens

Easy to take the bus to the gardens from our base in beautiful Merano and walk it back by 'Sissi's Way'. Spent 4 hours wandering and looking and admiring.

We visited these beautiful gardens during our 11 night stay in Merano during July 2016. Lots to see and didn't see it all on our first visit, so we had to have a second day to complete it. Well worth a visit.

What a delightful place to visit. We visited the gardens twice and found it well laid out with plenty of information in English as well as Italian and German. Although it is built on a mountain side there was quite a few people in wheelchairs about. We spent the whole day there and still felt that there were parts we... More

We visited the gardens during Trauttmansdorff after hours (Fridays in summertime), when the visiting hours are extended until 11 pm instead of 7 pm and the entrance ticket is at a reduced prize. If you visit in summertime I recommend this, since otherwise it can be very hot during the days and you might not enjoy the gardens as much.... More

Well worth a visit with lots to enjoy. We spent over four hours there and didn't see everything. The underworld exhibit was unusual. The commentary is in different languages at set times - there was one in English at 12.00 but you can check on the screen outside . There are plenty of places to sit and relax both in... More

This is a fantastic set of gardens that is enormous, and huge to explore. We visited with our daughter, and really enjoyed wandering around to see the wide variety. The maps and exhibits are translated into Italian, which is relatively rare for this area, and really helped us enjoy our time there. There are a wide variety of plants from... More

We loved the botanical garden. Well worth the 24 euro a family pays for entrance. They had several different garden themes, and we had a chance to see two of them, as well as the tourism museum. There was also an botanical underground with an interesting show. You can easily spend a whole day there and not see everything. Highly... More

One of the nicest gardens in this part of the world. The site, with its medieval chateau (now a museum) which in the 19th century was used as a retreat by Empress Elizabeth, is worth visiting for its historical significance.
