Arrived at Zanser Alm parking around 9am and parking area was fifty percent full. As directed by parking attendant, we set off on a clockwise hike of the recommended loop. Everyone seemed to be hiking clockwise but anti-clockwise would work also , except that the mountain views would come into play on the last half of the hike.

We think the trail is called the Adolf Munkel trail. Very soon we encountered stunning views of the Puez Odles peaks. In fact the first half of this hike was one of the most photogenic we have ever hiked. There were lots of people on the trail. It seemed every few hundred meters, there was a perfect selfie location.

Then we got lost. Signage sucks. Our first clue was that the hordes of hikers disappeared. We started meeting folks hiking the opposite direction. They told us to turn and head back to trail 34 or 36 which would take us back to the parking area at Zanser Alm. That trail entered meadow and forest with just occasional mountain views. The trail itself deteriorated to mud and trees roots. Not well maintained. We had to keep asking folks for the Zanser Alm parking. Signage sucks!

Just remember, if hiking clockwise, follow the sign for 34 or 36 to the right! Otherwise, you will end up miles from your car.

We stayed for three days at the town of Santa Maddalena. From my experience, if you go to visit Puez-Geisler Nature Park from Santa Maddalena, I suggest you two hiking destinations: Glatsch alm and gschnagenhart alm. They are amazing places! You can see both destinations’ names from the indicators. The entrance of the nature park is just in the parking area. If you use google map to go to there, input: Zanser Alm (very near to the parking area), when you get to Zanser Alm, it will be the beginning of your hiking to these two destinations. The fist destination will take 50 minutes from the indicator near Zanser Alm, the second will take 1 hour and 40 minutes. You can make your decision according to your own fiscal condition. But it is not very tiring doing this hiking. But it is totally worth doing. :) I add just two foto of these two destinations. Important is going there and seeing by your own eyes :)

My favorite hike of all time! We parked at Zanser Alm and hiked for about 5 hours (including breaks for lunch, a beer, and many many photo ops) to Malga Brogles and then to Geisler Alm and finally back to Zanser Alm. It’s not a hard hike, but not a casual stroll either. About 10 miles maybe a little more. There are, of course, harder options closer to the peaks but we avoided those. The views of the Odles are spectacular, almost otherworldly.

This was a fantastic detour from the city. I spent a few hours hiking (moderate difficulty) broken up by a great meal and cold beer at Geisler Alm situated at the base of the Dolomite Mountains. I even saw a herd of cows hiking the trail on their walk between pastures. One tip...make sure to grab a map or ask someone about the route unless you are fluent in German or Italian. The directional signs all start to look/sound the same after a while and I followed a small crowd out and exited the trail into a parking lot about an hour's walk from MY parking lot. I've hiked a lot, so the blame for this mistake sits totally on me.

This amazing park offers such a variety of amazing views your head will swim. Though most of the trails follow a specific section of the Dolomites, one sees them from many different elevations and framed by a wide variety (e.g. larch, evergreens, huge fallen rocks, massive rockslides, etc). Beware of park maps that can be quite unclear, especially regarding loop trails. Our 8km hike turned into 16 because the maps showed trails at the far end that either weren't signed or weren't there anymore, and no good indications of elevation. Nonetheless, it was a spectacular day in the mountains.

Our day was all clear blue skies as we drove this area, quite breath takeing and the only thing missing was the snow.....having said that perhaps snow would have taken more away than it added.
This is a must when in the area.

My wife and I hiked the Adolf Munkel Weg/Trail. Excellent hike right to the base of the mountains. Not overly difficult, but has some demands. We really enjoyed the Geisler Alm, picnic lunch, and relaxing before making our way down. You must visit.

After a night of stay in Lago di Braies we started to drive to Val di Funes to see the famous church of Santa Maddalena and it’s been a great experience the beauty and grandeur of the awesome Dolomites.

At 2km height, this is a very nice walk. You can go clockwise or counterclockwise around the mountains in front of you. Clockwise feels more easy to us. Its still a pretty lengthy walk (the times on the signs are pretty accurate) with enough mountaincabins/stops in between. Very nice views in so many different ways.
From out pov, 1 of the must do when you are in this area
