Visited with our 10 yo son who hates going to castles. It’s a short drive outside the old town. We found it interesting, frescos all around, beautiful view and has a restaurant. Signs written in English as well as German and Italian. Son enjoyed playing...More

The walk to the castle was quite long from the Bolzano city center. The last part of it was uphill on uneven couble stone type of access road. But castle has 3 floors courtyard and terrace and rooms have wall frescos that have been painted...More

Runkelstein Castle (please don't use the silly and invented name "Roncolo" that was imposed by the fascist regime) is definitely worth seeing. The fresco cycle is just wonderful.

On the map, it looked a straightforward walk from the centre of Bolzano, along the river. But it wasn’t to be. Sure, the tarmacked walk parallel with the river was very pleasant, mostly shaded by trees from the summer sun. But, at the end of...More

If you are in Bolzano just for few days, there is no need of visiting this Middle Age Castle. Not far from the city center, it is a nice walk away from the Christmas crowd. Personally I was not impressed and would not spend 8...More

The frescos in this castle will give a fascinating everyday life of the wealthy and privileged of Middle Ages. Take the free shuttle from Walther Square. Well worth the time and effort.

Nice medieval fortress, with beautiful frescoes. It can be easily accessed from the city centre of Bolzano with the free shuttle. There are very few people actually using it, and in my case it went only with me. For the return trip, I asked at...More

The Pass for an adult is 38€. Do a google search and you can see the advantages. Ours came with the hotel but if you are in the area any length of time I think it is worth it.
