At the start of the ethnic area and close to Madama and Castello and yet not visited much, is this great Piazza that has these unusual features. All the rectangular pillars have hooded openings with full headroom that are certainly puzzling , cause as we see them now, they don't appear to have had any function. But , we were fortunate enough to see a similar construction in South America and these openings allowed for one seat and a small desk where public registered notaries sat each day and wrote, witnessed and signed various legal and personal papers for the illiterate poor. However , these openings in Citta had a different purpose ! Records at Council reveal that this ancient area in Turin, was the first fruit and vegetable market clearing area [more like a modern day wholesale market ] and further revealed that in olden times when a transaction took place here the successful purchaser would signal for a labourer to carry or wheel the purchased goods to storage areas and the carriers would station themselves at these small openings until called upon. Very much in the manner that London's Fish markets have operated for centuries [until recently] A really interesting place.

Definitely worth visiting is the small Piazza Palazzo di città which houses the building of the same name which now houses the Turin town hall.
In the center a statue dedicated to Amedeo VI of Savoy, known as the Green Count, while a Moro soldier lies below
