It's easy to miss alongside the other attractions of Turin's historic centre. What really brought it to life for us was the enthusiasm and knowledge of Francesco, the volunteer guide. He told us the story of a rich family (makers of famous Barolo wine) that couldn't have children and decided instead to use what they had to benefit the community. They did a lot for the conditions of female prisoners and the poor homeless. They were intellectuals and had many famous characters staying with them, including Mozart and Don Bosco.
Francesco spoke slowly and clearly in Italian to help me (an Englishman) to understand.

This is so spectacular, uncrowned . Tour is in Italian, guide speaks some English. Incredible history of 1700’s palace with mentions of Napoleon, Mozart & others. Great neighborhood also. Churches nearby. 7 stars

Normally in Turin many people know the museum area of Piazza Castello with its Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama but this Beautiful Palace has nothing to envy in term of elegant style and very interesting stories about its founders the Marquis of Barolo.
Situated in the historical center of Turin near the pedestrian street of Via Giuseppe Garibaldi exactly at Via delle Orfane is easy to find and moreover there are many restaurants and bars in the area.

The palace has a long history of the French/Italian royalty and clearly was a cultural and political hub back in the days (with young Mozart gigging there whilst on the European tour with his family). The guide (Francesco) was a fountain of knowledge and very obliging with our two boys (7 and 10) that were subjected to this cultural experience. Top man

that was a couple of hours well spent, then go for a hot chocolate at Al Bicerin around the corner.

First--Don't you hate it when attractions don't keep their websites up to date and accurate??

I visited on Saturday and arrived at 3 pm expecting to be able to tour the palace on my own. The website states that the palace is open from 3:00 to 6:30 on Saturdays and "guided tours are offered ONLY at 5:30 on Saturdays." This certainly sounds like we'd be able to tour without a guide if we arrived at 3:00--wouldn't you agree??

On arrival I was told that I could only visit on a guided tour starting at 3:30 and ending at 4:30. I had a concert at the Capella della Mercanti (highly recommended) at 5:00, so I paid for a ticket.

The "tour" started at 3:30 but at 3:45 we were still standing in the entry listening to a long, long rap. I don't know if the rest of the group ever got inside the place but I demanded and received a refund.

These folks need to clean up their act. the palace may be nice but the way they operate the tour and their website is very poor.

It cost me only $3 for a guided tour of this lovely palazzo. A tour was available in English but I chose to to take it in Italian. Initially I was the only person on the tour and even when some others (Italians) came along the guide spoke slowly and clearly so I could understand everything. Recommended.

The museum was way beyond our expectations with breath-taking mural and ceiling paintings, sumptuous decorations, antique musical instruments and great stories behind every piece that we had the chance to discover thanks to the most amazing guide ever (Francesco Valerio). It was truly an inforgettable visit from numerous angles. We sincerely recommend!

There's a lot of history in Palazzo Barolo and the guide was clearly passionate about it (one can only see the place with a guide). Since we do not understand Italian, we were given folders with English explanations, but they were clearly short and bland relative to what the guide was describing. The tour encompassed the palace from top to bottom (including the basement). We enjoyed it.
