One of the last of what were once reputed to be 100 towers in Asti, and apparently one of the oldest with its basic structure going back to Roman times. Don't miss the explanatory plaque. Definitely has an interesting history and well worth a photo as you stroll up Vittoria Alfieri.

Roman tower turned into bell tower
Feb 2018 • Friends
The tower served as one of the towers of the roman walls, while now it serves as the bell tower of the church of Santa Caterina. It is said to have been the prison of Saint Secundus, patron saint of the city.

Roman remains
Mar 2017
Having walked across the old town, coming from the station, yiu end up at one of the entrances to the Roman town. Well worth admiring. The great shame in Asti is that the walls, which start nearby, are hidden by buildings and nowhere displayed or promoted. There is a general lack of information in Asti, we only found the tourist office in an grotty car park square outside the old town at the end of our visit and by accident, and even then it is good that we can read English, French and Italian as the info was very dispersed. This is typical of rich towns (the vineyards) which do not either maintain or promote their heritage well. I liked Asti, but would never bother to go back.

The legend of the Red tower
May 2016 • Couples
Legend has it the patron saint of the city was imprisoned here before his martyrdom. There is a plaque next to it explaining the history in Italian and English. The tower spans roman and the middle ages. Interesting and photogenic
