This is one of the masterpieces of romanesque architecture. One of those you study in textbooks. If you happen in Pavia even for a short trip, this is the second thing you are supposed to visit (after the nearby ice-cream place "Gelateria da Cesare"). The...More

the very church where Charlemagne and Frederic Barberousse were crowned kings of the lombards! while the front wall is typically lombard of shape, it is built of stone rather than red brick, that made it quite unic.My favourit church in Pavia.

The Basilica is most interesting. Our guide, PierLuigi Boggeri, guided us to the many features of interest.

A must see when visiting Pavia. Make sure you ask for the labyrinth, one of the few surviving and surely one of the oldest in Italy. The Basilique is of extreme importance as it survived the test of time. Quite impressive.

Doesn't seem to be that much at first, but the crypt and the mosaic floor by the altar are really worth it.

This church isn't as nice or new as most others in Europe, and that would be bad until you realize that Holy Roman Emperors were crowned in here. It's *that* old. Highlights include the mosaic floor by the altar.
