I decided to venture out to the canals of Milan, and I was glad that I did. The canals are peaceful and gives you a break from other tourists staying in Milan. I found the area to be tranquil and scenic. I had lunch at a restaurant along the canal and I was amazed by the scenic beauty.

The grand canal is the most well known canal out of the two (the other being pavese canal) because it had more restaurants. Both canals are about 30 miles long and are impossible to see all of it in one day. So rent a electric shooter as they are all over milan and ride up the canal if your interested. You cannot miss visiting the canal while in milan let alone eating on one of them even if its just a drink or an ice cream. I didnt do it but i heard the canals are best to be visited an night and if you are staying close you cannot miss eating on the canal for pizza or pasta dishes.

This was about a 30 minute walk or a 15 minute subway ride for us from the Duomo and we decided to walk it after an enormous breakfast. The walk itself to Naviglio Grande was a lot of fun as it cuts through the shopping district but once we got there, it wasn’t much to see.

We went on a Sunday morning and we didn’t realize the boats down the river don’t run until late afternoon. We walked around a bit and saw where the laundry used to get done on a small outlet of the bank. There are a lot of fun places for brunch and we grabbed some gelato. It was a nice change of pace from central Milan, but nothing spectacular.

The area was filthy and full of young people drinking and smoking and screaming. This is not a nice area. Maybe during the day would have been okay, but certainly not on the evening. We went on a Tuesday night for dinner. We can’t imagine what it’s like on the weekends

This would be a personal thing as to whether you found it attractive or not. Graffiti, filth, broken down buildings and a lot of drunk people. But then again, maybe that is a 'cool' place to be. The sides are lined with restaurants but not so many coffee bars. I wouldn't personally choose to return.

Walking along the banks of the canal is a lovely way to spend a morning, or afternoon. There are numerous restaurants and cafés you can stop at to eat and relax and there are also some sights to see. It's a pleasant escape after the crowds thronging around O Doumo.

Walking along the river is a nice change of pace. It was not very crowded for me (Friday afternoon). Keep in mind that it is lined with restaurants and bar that barely survived the pandemic. I think its important to keep that in perspective for you to really enjoy the area. I would love to visit again when "the world" is back in full swing.

The path is nice from Magenta to Abbiategrasso (nice section of path from Magenta to Milan) but from here to Gaggiano is a path full of pot hole. Avoid

You must not miss this triangle of eating places along the canals in the south of Milan. As long as the weather is OK, then wander around until you fine the right place to eat.

A vibrant area of Milan that is getting better every year for a stroll along the canal with an ever increasing selection of good restaurants and bars.

Definitely worth visiting to feel the high energy and enjoy the growing food scene.
