Top ways to experience Piazza della Scala
The area
Neighborhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Piazza della Scala is a significant square adjacent to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Zona 1 Centro Storico area of the city. In the middle of the square is the monument of Leonardo da Vinci which was sculpted by Pietro Magno in 1872. There are some important buildings surrounding the piazza including Teatro alla Scala opera house from which the piazza takes its name and is situated on the north western side, at the opposite side is Palazzo Marino. The piazza is certainly impressive and was relatively quiet when I visited in July 2020, it is a part of the city that cannot be missed on a visit to the city.

This is a small, beautiful and stylish square, named so because of the world-famous Teatro alla Scala that lines it from one side. Just opposite to it is the Milan's City Hall, a.k.a. Palazzo Marino. The square is connected to the Piazza del Duomo, where the famous cathedral stands, through the posh Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. A pretty, round, well manicured garden with a monument of the genius Leonardo is right in the center of the piazza.
Wouldn't say it is a must-see but it is still beautiful.

The Piazza fella Scala is a well maintained square. Grennery surrounds a central statute of Leonardo. There is marble seating around. Perfect to take a break whilst strolling Milan.

The Scala square is just behind the Duomo and a good area to relax. You can have there a break from your shopping and you can admire the buildings around it.

We walked through the smallish Piazza della Scala which is situated in front of the La Scala Opera. It was neat to see this famous theater.

Expansive piazza in a lovely city, with the famous opera house in the background. Especially gorgeous in the evening.

As its name says this little square stands across the street from the world famous La Scala theater. That should be enough for any traveler to visit it, but moreover there's a monument tribute to great Leonardo da Vinci, behind whom is the entrance to the also world famous passageway Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle leading directly to the Duomo.
Having all the above in mind it's a must stop for every tourist.
