Since we couldn't travel to Italy this year, the enterprising souls at LeonardoaMilano suggested we take a virtual tour with them (we'd really enjoyed the IRL tour of the Last Supper with them last year). So we found ourselves being guided by the excellent Davide round the fascist architecture of Milan (with a surprising side-tour). I have to admit, I thought the tour was going to be by cellphone camera, and was disappointed to see that it actually uses Google maps and other online technologies. "I could that myself", I thought. Was I wrong! Rarely has an hour passed so quickly - great information, highly-engaging commentary and exemplary use of online tools. Bravo!

We had a wonderful guide for our tour of the beautiful “Last Supper.” He was wel, versed in art history and spoke knowingly about technique, period, the broader art world of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Th tour began with a too-brief visit to the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie—our time shortened because of an unexpected worship service. We retreated to an adjoining courtyard for more lecture, and then eventually into the convent where one finds the painting. We were given 15 minutes in the space, with our guide speaking for about half that time. The painting is stunning in its own way, and thanks to the guide’s earlier talk I knew some of the things to be mindful of in Da Vinci’s work. This is indeed a powerful and moving masterpiece, one that was nearly lost in the 1943 Allied bombing of the city. Wherever you stay in Milan, make a point to visit this. It’s well worth the time.

Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. This was a wonderful tour where you learn a lot and get to experience more than just looking at amazing artwork. Finding the tour was very easy, as well as walking through the tour. Overall a wonderful experience!
