The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

    THE BANK - MUSEUM
I was there recently on the occasion of the temporary Moroni exhibition (beautiful) and in addition to the paintings I was able to admire the majestic rooms of what was until some time ago the Commercial Bank. It is located in the heart of the city in front of the Scala and you are immediately fascinated by the entrance, still imagining the comings and goings of the customers. The route is quite long and is divided into three different historic buildings, as are the art collections. The only flaw is the lack of rest points on which to sit to rest and contemplate the works comfortably; The problem of tourist fatigue has been taken into consideration in many museums.

A museum to take into consideration
Former building of the Banca Commerciale d'Italia beautifully used. Beautiful, spacious but a little dark, until April 1st with the same ticket you can see the very interesting exhibition on Moroni, beautiful pieces with additions by Moretto, Lotto and Titian. The permanent collection ranges from the 19th century to the contemporary, for all tastes

Art museum with very fine art
An art museum with lots of amazing pictures that require time to look through. The museum spans 3 buildings Palazzo Brentani, Palazzo Anguissola and Antona Treversi. A visit here must be a must when you are in Milan for the first time.

    Nice museum complex
The Gallerie d'Italia in Milan is a large exhibition area created inside three historic buildings in the historic center, where a vast permanent collection and frequent temporary exhibitions are hosted. On the occasion of my visit, there was a small but pleasant photographic exhibition dedicated to Maria Callas and a much more majestic one dedicated to Giovan Battista Moroni, the famous portrait painter of the sixteenth century, which also included numerous works by other famous artists of his time. Overall I found the location very beautiful, the permanent collections interesting and with the works on average well valorised and illuminated, the temporary exhibitions very well looked after and set up. Full ticket price not excessive, free with museum subscription card. The galleries have an efficient cloakroom service, a small shop and a restaurant-café. The complete visit requires at least a couple of hours, the visit route is not obligatory and in some places unclear, main entrance from Piazza della Scala.

    Very interesting and less known
We didn't have to visit it, but one afternoon when we were passing by it caught my attention and we went in and it was a success. It does not have works as famous as in other museums but here there is quality and good taste, basically Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculptures (but there are from other periods) and the building is also notable. If you go to Milan for several days, keep this museum in mind

    Worth a visit!
The current exhibition on Carena is very nice, but the permanent one is of a completely different level. Especially the selection of works on the Duomo and the surrounding places. Really fantastic. The only thing that left a little to be desired were Alessandro Manzoni's Gardens, I expected a little more.

    Beautiful art, relaxing environment.
The art in this gallery is so stunning. We just stumbled across this on our day trip to Milan and we were so glad we did. It’s a very intimate environment, not filled with tourists which is a nice break from the chaos in Milano near the Duomo. The staff was amazing. Also, the cafe attached to the gallery is less of a cafe but more of a bar. I stepped in there, sat down to have a glass of wine and the service and employees were lovely.

Perfect museum refuge from Milan’s mugginess & millions of tourists
Excellent fine art museum housed in an old bank in the heart of Milan, directly adjacent to the Galleria and the Duomo. Was very quiet and entirely devoid of tourists. Museum staff was very kind and welcoming and the art….WOW! Such a unique curation of Italian art & artists from a variety of times and mediums. I would certainly go again (+ they had a student discount!)

    Beautiful experience
Located in the center, this museum offers a splendid permanent exhibition, enriched by temporary ones. A place to spend time getting lost between art and thoughts. I visited it several times also with my students, carrying out guided tours and workshops and I must compliment the guides.

At the museum with my sister 👩🏼.
Exhibition of Felice Carena interesting 👩🏼‍🏫. and well located in the location of the Gallerie d'Italia. Then a visit to the rest of the works of art and the halls of the buildings that form the museum context. Always a discovery 🔝🤩.

The outdoor visual open air gallery is amazing to feel and take in this one of a kind art of the structure plus enjoy the high end global shopping stores indoors of the outdoor mall. This is the oldest mall in Italy. The global tourist and locals that visit the site is astonishing and worth a visit. The Opera house- is not too far the Cathedral and the Gallerie D'Italia . Enjoy

We saw a queue and joined it! The sculpture exhibition was fabulous - beautifully lit and displayed and all the information was in English and Italian. Just how an exhibition should be. Other exhibits were also very good and very well displayed. Do go outside to the garden exhibition - well worth looking at in the dark. Truly a great experience

A very nice collection of works bought by an Italian bank. Obviously unobtrusive and classic in style. Many works of Antonio Canova and Umberto Boccioni so do make sure to read about those and the other artists in their collection before you go. The problem with having art selected by country is that the works don't connect to anything. Paintings and sculptures transcend countries. You need to connect the dots to what you have seen in other museums and know what happened in 1890, 1910, 1970 etc. But for a deep-dive into Italian art this museum is worth a visit. It is however not for beginners.

One tip... the cost of the ticket is so low that you can decide what you want to see. If you really don't care about Canova then you can easily skip half of the galleries. It will still be worth a visit.

This morning, as happens every year during the Christmas period, we returned to the Gallerie d'Italia, this time to see the exhibition “Moroni (1521-1580). The portrait of his time", dedicated to the famous artist from Bergamo, one of the greatest exponents of Lombard Renaissance painting, so much so that his works appear in major museums around the world. The exhibition, very rich and organized with great care by thematic areas, presents authentic masterpieces by Giovanni Battista Moroni and some significant artists of his time, including his teacher Alessandro Bonvicino, known as Moretto, and Lorenzo Lotto. The numerous paintings are admirable, some of which are very famous, such as "The Tailor", the "Knight in Pink" and the various ladies, all by Moroni. Furthermore, the Gallerie d'Italia lend themselves very well, thanks to the various spaces, to best articulating the different artistic facets of the era treated from time to time and also on this occasion they carry out this task to perfection. The only comment I feel like making - common to all museums - concerns the descriptive labels of each work, which for the most part have characters that are too small and difficult to read.
However, it is an exhibition that we recommend without any hesitation and that can be visited until April 1st. Not to be missed, of course, are all the other sections and the magnificent environments in which they are located.

I returned to the Gallerie d’Italia on the third Thursday of the month to take part in the guided tour of the vault. Interesting explanations about the Art Collections of the bank that was based here and beautiful some of the works that are exhibited in rotation. On this occasion I also reviewed the museum where there was an exhibition dedicated to Carina that I did not find unmissable but being there it was worth seeing as well as the works permanently on display.

Great organization and a large collection of artwork. The entrance hallfrom Piazza della Scala is exceptionally beautiful, and the rest of the spaces are consistently nice as well.

The connection to the Giardino Alessandro Manzoni is also nice, and allows for a relaxing break as you move along the exhibition.

In general, it's one of the best museums in Milan. My main issue with it is the staff, which can sometimes be a little unfriendly, -but most of the time, it's not very crowded and can be a nice experience right in the center of the city.

The tickets are also quite affordable, and there are a lot of possibilities for reductions, removing almost any excuses not to visit at least once

Nice place to visit. Cheap (as -25 years old in Avril 2023 we payed 3€ each). A quiet place with few people, and lot of paintings to see. There also is a cloakroom for people like us who had a lot of luggages. It displays paintings and explanation about the history of Milan.

I revisited the Gallerie d’Italia on the occasion of the last temporary exhibition dedicated to Felice Carena, a painter of Turin origins of the first half of the twentieth century, certainly one of the lesser-known figures of the time but which was very interesting to discover. As usual, the exhibition turned out to be very well set up, in order to allow the knowledge of the artist in the various stages of development of his pictorial style, with an exhibition of a hundred of his works. On this occasion I also took the opportunity to review part of the permanent collections and I must admit that visits to Milanese galleries are always very pleasant.

Yesterday morning I returned here with my wife to visit the exhibition "The genius of Milan - Crossroads of the arts from the Fabbrica del Duomo to the twentieth century", which we found wonderful and set up particularly well, a journey that fascinates and involves through six hundred years of art and ingenuity in Milan. Magnificent and of great significance are the works chosen to represent the different periods, well commented and introduced chronologically by clear and effective synoptic tables.
The exhibition, which will remain open until March 16, 2025, really deserves to be seen, also because it is suitable for children and teenagers.
Do not miss, of course, the other rooms of the Gallerie d'Italia with numerous other masterpieces, all to be discovered for those who have never been before, but equally surprising for those who like us have known them for some time.
To emphasize the kindness and friendliness of the lady at the ticket office, as well as the discretion of the people in the various rooms.

Museum located in the heart of Milan a stone's throw from Piazza del Duomo. The museum route, if accessed from Via Manzoni, is not linear at all and in fact appears to be quite chaotic. The works inside are very varied and certainly interesting. There are often also temporary exhibitions which are also very interesting. The garden, accessible from inside the museum, is very beautiful and well-kept. Must see at least once in your life.
