The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Fab views of the cathedral. To visit the cathedral is €5 per adult and you can purchase tickets immediately via phone or the ticket office.
Top tip: unfortunately you can’t sneak into Mac Donald’s for a free wee like normal as they had security guards checking. But you can buy a coffee for under €2 which is cheaper than 2 people paying to use a public toilet!

It is also extremely busy on the central Duomo square, mainly due to a peaceful protest action by hundreds of event employees who have been without income for months due to the corona crisis. Everyone is dressed in black and at some point they all hit their metal material box at the same time. Impressive, but it probably won't make much of a difference.
Beyond this it is a very beautiful square with impressive buildings. Especially visit at night.

This is a lively, busy square with lots of street entertainers such as a man with a beautiful voice singing traditional Italian opera songs. There are some cheap restaurants just off the square with rhe view of the cathedral. There is also a fountain and shopping centres and museums just off it. Definitely a must if you are coming to Milan.

I think the word Duomo translates to Cathedral in English and that probably explains why there are around 15 other Piazza Duomos around the world. I’m trying to think of another Piazza that compares to the size of this one and I really can’t think of one. This Piazza del Duomo Milano is enormous.
The day I was there, there was a gentleman doing some really good dancing. The only problem was that he was dressed in something that might be considered a clown outfit. It was either really good serious dancing with bad dressing or some kind of comedy act. I prefer to think it was a really serious very good dancing act. The other fun thing going on was some kind of rock concert. The Piazza Duomo can hold an enormous gathering, but it doesn’t provide any kind of seating. It’s the biggest and funnest Piazza in Milan.

This is the main tourist area of the city and there are always lots of people about (most of them are taking photos of the Duomo). A lot of tourist attractions as well as shops and restaurants surround the plaza so it’s a obvious place to start your trip to Milan in.
At night the Duomo looks at its best and there are usually some kind of street performers providing a bit of entertainment.

I lived all of my life few streets away from Piazza del Duomo and to me, when I see it, it means home.
The Duomo, it’s the symbol of Milan, a majestic cathedral in the historic center of Milan.
You can visit it inside and you can also take a tour of the top of it, which I both strongly recommend if you wanna have a great memory of Milan.
I used to come here when I was a kid with my school and now that I’m an adult, I keep on visiting whenever I’m in town.
While in Piazza del Duomo you will be able to find some really small but lovely (and a little bit expensive) coffee places where you can have an Italian coffee while admiring the Milanese’s life in front of you.
During the fashion week it crawls with people.

I visited Piazza del Duomo many times during my visit to Milan in late December 2019 and early January 2020. The Piazza del Duomo was super crowded during this time period. During the evening, it was illuminated with a giant cone which turned different colors. During the day time the view of the front façade of the Duomo is great. There are many photo opportunities here. There are also several other museums, stores, cafes and the Galleria. It is the heart of Milan. They were preparing for a spectacular concert on New Years Eve.

This Square is the heart of the city of Milan. The Milan Cathedral (Duomo) and a monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II are set in the centre of the large rectangle.
There are many restaurants in the area and the nearby Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II gallery links Piazza della Scala with the Piazza del Duomo. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is covered with a vaulting made of iron and glass.
With its elegant atmosphere and the many stores lining the interior the gallery is a popular place and one of the city's most prestigious landmark.

During my brief stay in Milan, I would usually start exploring for the day from here. Easy to reach by underground, the stop is called Duomo. The cathedral is of course the highlight here and it's very nice to just take in the view. The Galeria Vittorio Emmanuele is also here and both are the most well known sights in Milan. There's a lot going on here and quite a few restaurants around, probably more expensive than say Brera or Navigli. I would recommend going to dinner in those two areas. All in all, great place to visit. Unfortunately, some street vendors or people who try to take your picture for money can sometimes be annoying.

The square is very large with a statue of a figure on horseback in its centre. It's an attractive square with a spectacular view of the front of the Duomo. It was very crowded when I arrived and there are numerous sellers of trinkets, which I ignored, avoided eye contact and was not hassled at all.

This is truly an awesome area and there is a humongous historic building but I am not sure about safety. There are tons of tourists but I don’t see any police or security in this area.

I'm taking the train to Milan for a day visit. What's the best way to get to City Centre?

I suggest you grab a map from the station centrale and go there by walking.
Better ask the tourism office to highlight the best road to take,
By this way,you can have an idea about the city, and not only the touristic center.
On your way back you can take the metro.
Another way to discover the city with the ability to hop in hop off is to take the bus sight seeing tour that happens to stop in front of the stazione centrale

Hi everybody!
I need an advice : what is the best way of getting from Linate airport to The
Square Milano Duomo Hotel
I understand that I can take bus#73 to the San Babilo metro , but the bus has a lot of stops and might take up to 1 1/2 hr.
The other choice is to take AirBus, but it will take me to a Central Train station which is 3 km from the Hotel
Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
PS Do not want to spent $$$ for a Taxi or private transfer

Dear alinderman55,
Perhaps the best way to get to Piazza del Duomo (although I do not know the name of the hotel) you get to the central station with the airport transfer and then take the yellow metro M3 S Donato direction and get off after 4 stops to Duomo. The cost of the metro ticket is 1.50 Euros, half every 3 minutes while the transfer from Linate costs 10 EUR one way, 16 EUR round trip a bus every 20 minutes. See the website atm and malpensashuttle for any further information.
Although late, I hope it is useful and you has understood my English and I wish you a pleasant stay in Italy.
