Neighborhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Interesting exhibits, but chaotic and confusing in many ways. Disappointing.
Some fascinating exhibits and a great wing devoted to Leonardo Da Vinci. However, the layout of the museum was confusing, with lots of dead ends and no clear flow. No maps available, either to carry or on any of the walls. Did have a breakdown of what was on each floor.Explanations of exhibits was in Italian and English language, but the type size was tiny, which meant people were crowding around to get close enough to read. Frustrating. Poorly marked entrance, no indicators on cross streets of where entrance was. Confusing exit which involved * going through several external buildings and brought you out on a different street of the block. Lots of tables in the basement as if there was a coffee shop, but only saw a vending machine. Kiosk in garden which had a small selection of drinks.stopped working at 1500. Beautiful building which was totally misused as a public display area.

The story of Leonardo's designs is very well presented and informative.
The story of Leonardo's designs is very well presented and informative. Some of the presentations were a bit long winded, but very cleverly shown. Lovely to see copies of his original drawings. Some nice old trains and aeroplanes too. A cafe would have been nice as you need at least 2 hours to see it all. As usual for Italy good value for money.

    Give yourself a full day!
You could easily spend a day here and only just scratch the surface. It’s packed with fascinating exhibits, well-explained, including in English, and whether your thing is space, industry, communications, the sea or the air, there’s something for you. Don’t miss it, but give yourself plenty of time to do it justice.

Great museum, power cut lead to disappointing customer service
We only had one day in our schedule to tour Milan and decided to visit this museum. We took the recommended route which starts off with a lot of history around steel forging and manufacturing and we had just got to the Leonardo section when there was a power cut (many of the interactive exhibits are in need of electricity) We waited on a sofa area for around 20 minutes hoping the power would come back and eventually someone helpful who worked there suggested we visit the air and rail areas with natural light, but then that’s where the help stopped when we were fairly aggressively told to leave the building. We grabbed a coffee and lunch at the wonderfully welcoming Elegant Coffee over the road from the museum exit (I recommend!) We then tried to head back into the museum and were again fairly aggressively pointed at and told to leave (we don’t speak Italian so had to read body language). So we walked around to the entrance where by this point the power was back on, but they wouldn’t let anyone else in as they weren’t sure how long it would take to get the museum ready. (Which given they open most mornings you’d anticipate they might have a rough idea how long it would take) We weren’t offered a refund or an apology, just as a group of confused people waiting told we could come back tomorrow- no good as most people weren’t able to do so. If we’d have known we would have gone straight to the exhibits we were interested in and we were disappointed as the museum looks great and we’d have easily been there another few hours. I appreciate you can’t plan for power cuts, but a bit of communication and apologies would have helped. This is why I have rated 3 out of 5 as if there was better customer service it would be a solid 4.5 or even 5.

You will never have enough time to see it all!
A great museum, definitely worth the visit. The exhibit showcases many different aspects of science and technology, from mining and electricity to space travel and Da Vinci's inventions. We spent more than three hours and did not manage to see all the exhibits properly. The museum layout and visiting plan are somewhat confusing and illogical. At the end of the suggested route, you have to exit the museum, and walk around the block to get back to the entrance where the lockers with your stuff are. On the day we have visited there was heavy rain, so we had to walk in the rain and cold to get back to our stuff (this rout was the only possible). Nevertheless, it is an amazing place for technology enthusiasts and engineers.

Very enjoyable if you’re interested in Science and Technology
Lovely museum to visit on my trip to Milan. I booked my ticket through the museums official website and had a mobile ticket. I arrived an hour early and they let me straight in, no problems at all! The museum showcases the history of technology, industrial, space, science and much more. My favourite part was the Leonardo Da Vinci gallery on the top floor. Theres so much to see, I’d recommend a good hour and a half minimum to really take it all in and have a good look round. On each floor there’s access to the outside balconies if you need a few minutes with some fresh air. There are lots of activity areas which you can book online. Only go to this museum if any of the topics mentioned are of interest otherwise you may not enjoy it. The marking on the floor weren’t the easiest to follow however you can download a map of the museum on your phone through a QR code when you enter. I managed to get around ok. Toilets are clearly marked and there are lots of them. When you want to leave the exit is also clearly marked and you can enter the gift shop (there are also toilets here too) the gift shop has lots of good merchandise, especially for children. I enjoyed my slow walk around the museum!

If you like science, you will love this!
Brilliant museum - excellent value for money, loads to see and some interactive exhibits. We didn't have enough time to see it all and one area (space) was closed during our visit, so will be returning in the spring to see some more. It is aimed more at school age children than very tiny kids but there is plenty for adults to see, read and learn about. There is lots of information to read as well as everything to look at. And the Da Vinci models and drawings are simply beautiful.

    Amazing Experience
Brilliant museum with fascinating exhibits. The museum has an area completely dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci’s life, inventions, science, notes, drawings, and croquis. Being a big of Leonardo Da Vinci since my teenage took this experience to another level. The energy around his books was unbelievable. I went there for Leonardo da Vinci’s exhibition mainly, and I was happy to discover the rest of the displays. It’s also a great value for money. An appropriate audio guide would’ve been a plus.

    Huge and interactive, reasonably priced
The museum feels huge - we spent about 2 hours there and could have spent much longer. Our six-year-old found several of the exhibits very engaging and enjoyed all of the interactivity. The forge and metalworks exhibits, plus the airplanes, boats, trains etc. were amazing in a city museum. The museum has several brochures in various languages aimed at different age groups, helping them explore. Ticket price is very reasonable, recommend to book online to avoid lines and know when a good time slot is, but we did not have to book days or weeks in advance. Gift shop is also nice!

    Fab building
The building is probably the best part. Fabulous architecture, very pretty. The exhibits downstairs are OK. The Da Vinci section on the first floor is really interesting. Worth a visit for a few hours.

Spent 4 hours including a lab taht we paid a very small extra fee for and in the end did with Francesca and was really interesting. The museum is quite large despite appearances from the main entrance, lots of interesting things to see and recommended if you have the time. It would be a pity to try and do it in less than 3 hours.

The museum is very big, and we didn’t have the energy to go through all of it (exhausting). Some of the exhibits were very nice and interesting but we felt like there were not enough explanations. At the end we decided to go to the outside exhibition and we liked it but nobody told us that it requires to pre-purchase tickets to enter the submarine…

Lots of exhibitions and some interesting things to see on display. But rather disappointing if you compare it to the equivalent science museums in Paris, London and other European capitals as there are very few learning activities for kids and it seems that the museum is trying to fit everything in a small place. Would have been better to focus on fewer themes, for example space, water and Leonardo da Vinci, which are the most interesting ones, but really show these in detail.

This was a fun museum for older kids with my 8 year old enjoying it a bit more than my 6 year old. Plenty of hands on activities and mixed media presentations but we unfortunately went at a busy hour and it was nearly impossible for my kids to really try much. Quite a few of the iPads/screens were not working that day which further limited their interactions and was a bit disappointing.

Having said that, the topics covered are vast and quite detailed. My kids loved the exhibits (and made me feel old when we looked at the historical cell phones that included the version I had growing up) and the videos on climate change was well done.

Fantastic experience to see the marvelous science and technology works of Da Vinci and the huge exposition hall with boats, planes, etc. I strongly recommend this for families with children of all ages. We have a wide range of teenager to pre-K and all of our kids enjoyed the museum. The displays are very well done with English descriptions so you won't be attempting to interpret Italian.
Make sure you save time to explore the final hall with the huge boats, planes, gliders, helicopters, and more. They squeezed in and maximized their use of the space to have so many transportation items in one warehouse.

I had high expectations of this museum and it failed to meet them. The content was interesting but my 3 year old was not as interested as we were. There were very few interactive things, and of those interactive things, about half of them were broken. We liked the sound room though, but be aware that this is not open all the time.

The thing I was most disappointed by was the submarine. My little boy is fascinated by it and was desperate to explore. However, we only found out once we got there that you need an extra ticket (at €10 per person) it had to be part of a guided tour which was only available in Italian, and anyone under 6 was not allowed. So we had a very disappointed little boy.

They provide lockers for pushchairs, but there are only 4 of them.

I'm not entirely sure why this museum made every list I could find of things to do with a 3 year old in Milan.

I think this museum is great for families, however not worth the visit if not accompanied by younger children. We visited the museum following a recommendation from our hotel after we expressed interest in Leonardo Da Vinci, so we were slightly disappointed when the exhibit focused more on the Da Vinci followers than the great man himself. The layout of the museum is incredibly confusing and I felt like I was in an IKEA instead of a museum. I’d you’re a visitor to Milan on short time, I would not recommend this venue.

The museum is very large and one can easily spend several hours wondering the different exhibitions. We spent 2 hours although we walked through several exhibitions. Money well spent (entrance is 10 € for adult).
