This piazza is about the same size as Piazza Della Erbe, but it does not seem to be as busy. You will pass through it on your way to Castello San Giorgio. It also holds opportunities for shopping and several cafes and bars.

Where all Mantua big attractions are just on a throw of stone, the magic is getting there from the Corso Umberto I, don't miss to buy an ice cream and just give a walk around checking all the nice buildings.

Piazza Sordello is the main and oldest square of Mantua, from one side closed with the Palazzo Ducale of Gonzaga family, from another with the cathedral and bishop palace. Once a week there is an open market with stalls.

Explore piazza Sordello any time of the day and experience its perfect proportions and airy feel. Planked by the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Castiglioni (a highly recommended boutique hotel), it offers beautiful views.

When we were there it was empty save for the small area occupied by a few cafe tables. It was the beautiful buildings around it which made it so lovely. We spend a couple of our "coffee breaks" there and much enjoyed the people watching...More
