It took 2 years to renovate the old cable infrastructure and cars so we were lucky to find it recently reopened. It is a must to do for the views that are magnificent from the summit (on a clear day!). The new cart track and upgraded chair lift on the final section are new and welcome. Carts are very popular,... More

The cable car ride gives fantastic views over Lake Maggiore, the islands and the mountains beyond. You have to change cars halfway up. We went at midday and queued for about 45 minutes, but the views were worth it! When we came back at 2.30, there were no queues at all to go up the mountain! When you get to... More

High frequency and every car takes forty passengers so only short waiting time. The kids loved the ride. On the way down we hiked the L1 trail to the Alpino station. A beautiful walk but tough.

The cable car opened on 13th August,. It is 19 euros return per adult. Go early if you can as when we came down at 11.30 there was a long queue. It goes every 20 minutes and cars hold 40 people. You can stop at gardens at half way, and at the top there are chair lifts to the top... More

The gardens failed to live up to our expectations - perhaps July is too late in the season to visit. Not a lot there - you can see as much by the roadside - not worth the drive up

Disappointed to find that the Cable Car had been closed for exceptional maintenance for two years so find something else 2 do - there is a pier with boat trips close by - suggest haggle the private boats for island hops as they are more frequent than the public ferry boat.

The cable car is not operating and there are no signs of any maintenance activities so it will most likely be out of operation much longer... Mottarone is still worth a visit, but you have to go there by car.

Only found out this was not working by noticing the lack of cars despite reading before we got to Stresa that it would be up and running in early July. Drove up to the top of Mottarone the long way which was pleasant, but only a few people around and an isolated restaurant. The cable car building is in a sorry... More

So wished to do this to get up to the base station of Alpyland. However, the tortuous 11-mile drive half way up Monto Mottarone is only a very poor substitute, particularly in a good car.
