Stresa has a picturesque lake front which is ideal for a stroll, but frankly it is not special. You get a beautiful view of the Borromean islands, the other little towns on the other side of Lago Maggiore, and of the mountains. But I personally prefer the lakefront walk in Orta San Giulio.... the hawkers near to the pier who want to sell tickets for a tour of the Borromean islands are very persistent and a bit of a nuisance...

This is the best promanade on the lake, also perfect If you like jogging. Starting from Stresa, it runs beetwen the lake and the most prestigious hotels. Do not stop when the promanade leaves the lake: the best is still to come. After 200 meters you reach the lake again and you are in front of Isola Bella, a real pearl you must see. Perfect to take picture. The promanade goes to Carciano, where you have a pier to get the boat to Isola Bella or Isola Pescatori. There you find also a cable car to go up to Mottarone (1500 meters high) from where you enjoy a superb landscape: you can see 5 lakes

We ate here on our last night, otherwise we would have eaten here more often. The pasta dish I had was the best I had tasted in Italy, and the service was excellent, with some lovely nibbles served with our drinks. Highly recommended.

The promenade follows the lakeside from one end of Stresa to the other. There are plenty of benches in the shade and fountains and statues to admire. Each of the hotels overlooking the promenade is imposing and all are lit up at night.

There's always something to see while wandering along the Lungolago in Stresa: boats on the lake, sparrows taking a dust bath, unusual tourist attire plus the usual people watching. If they added a few more benches it would be perfect!

Spent 5 days here. Rainfall makes it depressing. Incessant heavy rain - 5 days continuously.
Most resorts, trips closed.

A great stroll along the promenade will be rewarded with a few nice cafes, great views of the islands and beautiful mountain backdrop.

Park in the big parking area alongside the Ferry embarcation point & walk towards Baveno. Great views of the old majestic hotels that overlook the Lago & the three islands that are just offshore.

The promanade is best enjoyed in the evening when the temperature is cooler and the traffic is also quieter. Day time walks are often hot, noisy and busy - watch out for the dust and fumes from the lawnmowers and strimmers! The views are pleasant especially on bright clear days, grab a gelato and watch the world go by!

The promenade starts at the ferry terminal/tourist information office and continues along the lake front for quite a distance past some of the grand hotels and good views of the islands with shuttle boats racing back and forth - you can catch them from their berths along the promenade. There's a a couple of public bathing beach areas not far along plus various statues and gardens. Best time is probably early evening when it's not so hot and you'll be in a better frame of mind to stroll along. There's just so much to see and take in - very pleasant indeed.
