It is not easy to find a parking space near the villa so it is advisable not to waste time and leave your car in the large and convenient multi-storey car park right in front of the entrance to the Villa. The view is immediately framed in a beautiful loggia .. ticket office a few steps, the entrance to the Villa a little further. The interior is well preserved and you visit quickly, it is worth dedicating more time to the beautiful park always overlooking the lake .. photos are wasted and it is truly a magical place. I do not recommend stopping at the bar to refresh... Waiters wander around regardless of who has just sat at the waiter's. I hope to return soon.

Don't miss this beautiful place even in the winter! The Villa is a short hike from Varenna ferry and then a nice walk along the lake viewing the beautiful gardens. There is a public restroom in the gardens along with a place to stop for a refreshment. Tours inside the Villa were limited to weekends only when I visited in March.

The Villa is owned and operated by the Province of Lecco. The complex consists of the villa which has been transformed into a museum and the botanical gardens that surrounds it. Be prepared to walk. The gardens extend for nearly two km, and there are stairs and elevation changes. But the reward is some magnificent views of the lake, the mountains, and other villages. The Botanical Garden contains a wide variety of plants ranging from a simple kitchen garden to several rare species. All are marked with excellent descriptive signage. As you walk along the lake or climb the stairs, you will pass numerous statues and other elements of hardscape. The only downside was the extremely rude people who use the garden for a photo shoot. Women, and some men, often in groups of two to four, set up cameras on tripods and occupied the best viewing spots for long periods of time. Management really should control this activity because it is very frustrating when all you want is to take a quick photo, and then move on.

Beautiful gardens, sometimes shaded. Better the visit in spring for the presence of more specimens of flowers. Taken the cumulative ticket from € 22 that also brings together the nearby gardens of Villa Cipressi. Recommended comfortable shoes. Very salty parking in front of the Villa entrance (the first two hours 3 euros / h and then 2 euros), but almost mandatory because there are only a few free places along the way entering Varenna.

Charming old villa on the lake. The village of Varenna is also very beautiful. Spring between April and May is the ideal time to visit the villa as tourists are not yet too many and the climate is warm but not exaggerated. Villa kept very well and attention to detail. Perfect for a weekend getaway.

We almost didn't get to see the gardens - a flat tire derailed our day for about 4 hours. Once we got to the gardens, all the drama of earlier in the day vanished. The scenery and view of Lake Como was calming and beautiful. The gardens were beautiful and because we were so late in the day, not crowded. We were there as the sun was starting to set. Just gorgeous.

The Villa Monastera is beautiful and the garden is a feast for the eyes. In our experience, the best time to visit is in the mid-week afternoon in the off-season. We were lucky enough to be there almost alone. This gave us the opportunity to explore the property in peace and quiet. Our companion, a small Cocker Spaniel, immediately found a new friend in the kiosk saleswoman. Anyone who visits Lake Como and enjoys beautiful gardens will definitely feel at home here and will not forget the garden in a hurry. And the view over the lake is stunning!

I have been coming to visit the Villa for years And every time it is always nice to be able to admire all those flowers and plants with a spectacular view. The Villa is large And walking is very pleasant There is also a bar and half bathrooms (you need the entrance ticket to the garden to use)

This Villa and Garden is a short walk outside Varenna. It is definitely worth the time to enjoy it. You can pay for the garden or the garden and villa. We did both. The garden is a beautiful landscape of trees and plantings along shore of LC. The views are stunning. The villa is a spectacular architecture with a lot of interior marble. It takes 1-2 hours to thoroughly enjoy this activity.

Villa Monastero in Varenna: if it is not the most beautiful villa on Lake Como, it is certainly the one with the most beautiful garden. Lots of young foreigners visit it. From the East, to the Arab world, to Eastern countries, to some Western Europeans. And thinking about it, the Matusas and the Italians, apart from me, were very few... But now everything has become too expensive. One star less.

Villa of a certain charm overlooking Lake Lecco. Nice garden, shame about the work inc orso that do not allow you to visit it completely. Many foreign tourists and especially many photo shoots. The ticket for the visit of the garden alone costs 7 euros per person. The village (Varenna) is nice, but quite chaotic causes groups. The only big drawback is the parking: impossible to park in the city streets, in front of the Villa entrance there is a private silo where you can 'park for a fee with excessive costs.

In the Italian journey, train from Bellano to Varenna (4 minutes and €1.50 per person) for Villa Monastera. We arrive a little early (8:30 a.m. and open at 9:30 a.m.), but the city is deserted and we can take the time to admire the streets and landscapes (not the case at 11:00 a.m.).
10 € for adult entry and 5 for those under 25 for the gardens only (the villa looks like it was seen in Tivoli).
Long stroll through the long alley (1 km) filled with palm trees, lemon trees, roses...
Colors and smells everywhere as well as a 180 degree view of the lake.

Visited here in mid October & whilst didn’t see the glorious summer flowers, it was still beautiful & 100% worth visiting & exploring the gardens.
We were lucky as it was a cloudy/sunny day, so we were able to appreciate the beauty of it.
One of the good things in visiting in October was that is was also very quite. No queues & we could walk around in peace & quiet.
A very beautiful villa & thoroughly recommended.

I was with my husband in Varenna and how could I not visit the park of the villa... entry costs €10 per person, then with the visit to the villa it also costs more (I don't remember how much...). There was a bit of a queue at the entrance but let's say it's really worth it! The location is TOP, the routes are varied, uphill and downhill but also on flat ground (all doable for both children and us adults). There are various species of plants, flowers, ... from all over the world. The view of the lake is spectacular, especially seen from the various balconies of the villa! Various statues, disused fountains, benches, pieces of balconies, ... in short, our eyes are dazzled in every way. There are areas with benches, a bar, toilets. Really worth a visit!

Although we were forced to walk through the vast grounds of the Botanical Garden with umbrellas in pouring rain, I was impressed by the well-kept park, which even in the second half of September has lots of colorful flowers and a nice number of different citrus trees. There are also stone statues everywhere, as well as beautiful tiled floors and pretty, twisted columns to admire.
The magnificent mansion, which is included in the entrance fee, is also a must-see (there is also a small cafe and toilets downstairs). An impressive marble staircase leads to the upper floor, where I was particularly impressed by the lavishly equipped, elegant bathroom.
Out of season, you should easily find a free parking space in the relatively large parking garage opposite the entrance.

An absolute must see, although aia enjoyed it a little more than my young children (7 and 8 years) it was a welcome change from the beach, boats and pool.

If you’re visiting Varenna, Villa Monastero is a must! It’s a 10 minute walk from the ferry dock or if you’re driving there is a multi-storey car park opposite, however be warned the car park is VERY narrow and gets VERY busy so I’d get there early.

Villa Monastero is beautiful, we paid for a Garden and House ticket for a family of 4 and it was 31.20EURO. The whole visit took us around 2.5 hours and we had a drink in the cafe too overlooking the lake.

I would 100% recommend a visit if you’re looking to experience the beautiful of one of Lake Como’s most popular villas, giving you a wonderful insight in to their inner beauty.

I hope this review is helpful, happy exploring

When we visited Villa Monastero in June 2023, we were already at the entrance to the villa at 10 a.m., which is also recommended. Only a few visitors were out and about in the garden as early as we were. Entrance fee €13 per person to visit the villa and garden. The light in the morning on the lake and in the garden is simply unique. Beautiful, well-kept gardens right on the lake. The villa is also beautifully furnished with furniture from the 19th century. We were in the complex for a total of 2 hours. Highly recommended. The visit was also possible without any problems without a reservation.

We came from a long way to visit Villa Monastero in Vanessa on Como Lake because it is said that this villa is very beautiful with a wonderful garden, but we were diaappointed as the garden was not well catered for. From the garden, there was no way to reach or watch the building of Villa Monastero. All il all, it was not worth spending 10€ visiting this place

The garden is beautiful but too bad, following work and a wedding, more than half of it is closed. We paid the entrance fee of €10 per person (full price) for 20 minutes in the park... When we asked for a partial refund and reported the problem, we were told "that's not possible, sorry". Work was reported but not the marriage. A word of advice, go your way, there are plenty of other things to see in the city.

I visited Varenna previously in February however the gardens were closed as it was off season so I went back whilst visiting in August. There was no queue for tickets - I went at around 2pm on a Wednesday. The gardens and the views are just beautiful! It wasn’t busy at all so great for taking photos and relaxing. There is a small cafe and toilets within the gardens so you can stop and have a drink taking in the view. Lovely way to spend a couple of hours - the gardens are not huge so you can probably walk the whole place in an hour (or more if you stop along the way). Would definitely recommend! I didn’t bother buying the museum ticket as I was short on time. The gardens are less than a 10 minute walk to the ferry so very easy to get there and back.
