The marvellous gardens stretch and snake along the edge of the lake and are a beautiful place to walk even if there is minimal interest in the gardens. The Villa is a walk back to the past and grand times with original features, furnishings and...More

I Love to come back in Villa Monastero, Varenna in Lake Como. It’s a perfect place for a couple, engagement, family shooting.

The garden and the views from the garden can't be beat! The garden is alongside Lake Como, so you are literally walking along the lake during your garden tour. Saw some small + private closed docks within the garden; so maybe this is how the...More

We visited the villa & gardens in the off season (Nov-March). Soooo much beauty to see! Photo opportunities abound...you can’t take a bad photo anywhere. My suggestion - off season travelers, pack a picnic to enjoy at any of the benches along your way. Renzo...More

My friend and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon strolling round these gardens. Loads of interesting plants and everything very well kept. Fabulous views over Lake Como. Although the weather wasn't great it didn't affect our visit at all. Even though it was late in...More

The gardens are spectacular and meticulously kept. There are numerous species of trees, vines, and flowers. It is a lovely place to relax and stroll with stunning views of Lake Como. You will want to allow plenty of time to walk through and take pictures.

We spent the morning in the garden. There is so much to see if you're interested in gardening. The garden is very varied, with interesting trees, shrubs, flowering plants, and an excellent row of cultivated citrus trees. We enjoyed a drink and later lunch. The...More

I really love Varenna. Very peaceful, tranquil, and almost no sound when you enjoy the beauty of the scenery. The villa top it all, very well maintained and nice for walking. Just sitting in the garden villa is so serene and admiring the lake, speechless!!

Greatly enjoyed visiting this garden during a day trip to Varenna, Bellagio and Como. This garden is located in the lovely village of Varenna. Both are well worth visiting. Clean, beautiful and charming! We took a train from Milan (55 minute ride) and were able...More

I am not sure if it is open. But, however if it is not open, you can walk along the road about 7 feet from above it and actually see it all from the road.

We were staying in Menaggio so we took the ferry to Varenna. This took less than 20 mins and was very cheap and a lovely way to see the lake.

Villa Monastero (2 Replies)
I will visit Verranna in December 4, 2018 and need to know that Villa Monastero will close in December? If it closed, where is the other interesting place in Verranna that I should visit ? Thanks so much for your information.

Day Trip Lake Como Second Week In March (5 Replies)
Hey everyone! I was planning to do a day trip to Lake Como. We will be staying in Milan for a few days and using one of the days to go. I was thinking of taking the train from Milano Centrale to Como S Giovanni. From there we would take the ferry to Bellagio then to Varenna. From Varenna take the train back to Milan. In Varenna we were hoping to see Villa Monastero, as I believe this will be the only garden open. Do you all think this is doable? Any recommendations on the timing of when we...More

A good day trip to Como would be an early train from Cadorna in Milano, to San Giovanni. Walk (not far) to the cable car for an amazing view of the lake. Incredibly steep and high, but go early in the day for the clearest view. There is also a little museum to Volta on the waterfront - it is a strange and delightful experience, in a temple-like building. There is a very moving holocaust memorial nearby. Take the Batello (about two hours of non-stop photo opportunities!!) to Bellagio for...More

Lake Como 3 days/2 nites itinerary help (0 Replies)
We plan to take a train from Milan to Varenna then ferry to Bellagio. Ideally we would like to spend 2 nights in Bellagio but not sure if our itinerary will allow it. Any input is much appreciated. Is there a luggage storage facilty in Varenna train station? We thought of visiting Villa Monastero before taking the ferry to Bellagio. Is this possible? We don't have a suitcase but handluggage. If there's no storage facility, would we be allowed to lug it around in the grounds? We would...More
