It cost me 5 euro for the gardens and i was enchanted, to me much better than Villa Charlotta. The gardens run in terraced walks along the lakeside with plenty of areas of cool shade on a hot day. A very enjoyable two hours spent.

We only visited the gardens, and we lucky to be doing so on a day with lovely weather. It is amazing what they have achieved within such a narrow stretch of ground, the gardens feel much larger than they actually are, and there are some wonderful, really old trees and plants. I love gardening and work at a plant nursery,... More

Enjoyed my time here, I recommend the gardens more than the Villa, just my personal preference. It was a beautiful walk in a beautiful garden. I highly recommend.

These gardens are a delight and an easy stroll from Piazza San Giorgio. We enjoyed the half of the Villa that was open as well.

Plan to spend an hour or two. 2 km. of gardens and trails beside Lake Como. Over 1000 species of plants. Exceptional beauty. Be sure to bring your camera.

We were there at the end of the day and it was a pleasant walk. It doesn't take more than an hour to walk calmly and take some pictures. But you might want to just sit and relax for a while... It's VERY near the main square and right next to Villa Cipressi.

These lovely gardens are a short walk from the ferry in Varenna along the attractive lakeside path. The peaceful gardens stretch for about a mile along the side of the lake and contains a variety of trees and plants from different habitats and the various walks provide numerous stunning views of Como Lake. There is a small cafe part way... More

Villa Monastero may not attract the amount of crowds as its more famous and glamorous neighbours from across the lake but for someone staying in Varenna for a day or more it is still worth a visit. The Villa lies on the southern outskirts of town just past the Hotel Villa Capresi. 5€ entrance to the gardens alone or 7€... More

Some of the best views are from the Billa Monastero gardens. Go early in the morning so you will be alone and take pictures without any other tourists taking up your picture backgrounds. The Villa is just a short walk from the Varenna ferry port. Well worth visiting if traveling to Lake Como.

We found this garden by accident when we were exploring Varenna, and it became the highlight of our day. The garden stretches for about a mile along the side of the lake and contains a large variety of plants from different habitats. Because the garden is terraced and shaded it is an excellent place to relax out of the glare... More
