About
Lecco's clock tower is the second highest tower in Italy and one of the highest in Europe. Now it's possible to visit it, in some days and only with reservation, thanks to the project that aims to revalue this monument. It will be a unique experience that will lead from the full of history basement of the tower up to the terrace on top of it from where you can admire a full 360 view of the city, the lake and its mountains.

I must say that I am always concerned with the authenticity of excellent reviews of an activity that has many first time reviewers. But in this case I must agree with all the positive comments; this was a very informative and fun tour, given by a very passionate volunteer.

About 10 days before arriving in Lecco, I emailed the volunteer organization of the Campanile di San Nicolo, inquiring about an English tour for three women. I promptly heard back that they would try to locate a volunteer for the specific date we were in Lecco and could I please provide our names prior to the tour. A few days before our arrival I received the details; unfortunately an English guide wasn't available, however since two out of three ladies spoke Italian, we agreed on an Italian guide. Our guide was delightful, prompt and very happy to answer all our questions and wait while my friends translated. However, its worth knowing that there are many informative signs in English and I certainly understood a great deal even with translations.

Yes, there are lots of steps, but as other reviews indicate, they are taken in stages with time to catch your breath. We reached the bell tower level for spectacular views and had no problem hearing the bells ring at 11 am!!! From there its necessary to climb about 15 feet up a straight ladder, which some people might find difficult, but you are well rewarded with lovely unobstructed views and the satisfaction that you're made it to the top! Our tour was about 1 hour 1/2 ... we were slow and had lots of questions; don't think it usually lasts this long.

One of the big surprises mid-way up the tower, was an exhibition that is in progress ... a 4-5 foot reproduction of the Campanile tower made completely from Legos! It was just amazing and so detailed.

We thank the volunteer group for Campanile di San Nicolo and especially our excellent guide. This was a highlight of our trip and highly recommended!

I would highly recommend this free tour of Lecco’s Bell tower. Covers some medieval history of the city capped off with the most spectacular views in town. The climb up the tower is actually pretty relaxed compared to many in Europe so is suitable for all ages.

An extremely enjoyable experience involving a climb to the top of the belltower to get a breathtaking 360 degree view of the alps and Lecco. The tour is conducted by volunteers who were so helpful and informative. There are many steps but they are taken slowly and there are rests in between . The last ascent involves a vertical ladder so shoes with a good grip are advisable. Besides the experience of being inside the original belltower, the climb and the view, you even stand amongst the bells and witness their ringing first hand. I highly recommend this tour combined with a meal in one of Lecco's piazzas, a stroll along the river and shopping.

A typical beautiful Italian church! I go into every one I see and haven't been sorry yet. Except for one in Milan that had a very rude man (priest?) at it. This one in Lecco does not disappoint.

Our group of seven enjoyed a special tour of the tower this morning. Our guides gave us all kinds of historical information about the building of the tower as well as its meaning for the people of the town. It took about an hour to really casually enjoy the climb and the view from the top.
Those with a fear of heights or closed spaces might find the visit a little stressful ... but we loved it!!

Wonderful! Gorgeous! If you have normal legs you can climb and you can enjoy an unforgettable sight. Thanks to the volunteers that succeed into their dreams to get available this unique belltower. There's no ticket but reservation is requested; if you want you may offer money to the association.

This is a beautiful tower that dominated the Lecco skyline wherever you are. It adds a scenic background ti every view. I’m sure the views from the tower itself are as least as attractive on a clear day - unfortunately the only day I was in Lecco this trip it was raining heavily and the lake was covered in mist.
