This statue built around 1838 was in the memory of the work done by Alessandro Volta – We are told that Alessandro Volta invented the first electrical battery in 1799 whereby he could prove the electricity could be generated chemically thereby leading to the development of the field of electro-chemistry. The statue is located close the Como Lake harbor and one could find it on the way from station Como S. Giovanni to the lake. Good peek into history!

Alessandro Volta is one of the most important historical personalities to come from Como as he invented the electrical battery. A monument in his honour is befittingly located in a central piazza which bears his name.

Wow, can’t believe that we stumbled upon such a historical exhibit in Como. I have now visited two birthplaces, exhibits and monuments of the most inspiring geniuses of all time. Nicolas Tesla a few years back in Croatia and now in Como which to tell you the truth I had never heard of before our visit. A Stunningly gorgeous city and with none other than the Alessandro Volta’s scientific experiments of the late 18th century in a Temple named after him. In this building there were countless experiments in showcases all in fine restored and some in original condition which lead up to his most famous experimentation of all time the discovery of the battery. Imagine, without this genius where would our modern world be but without the IPhone, portable computers and of course the electric car.

A very illuminating exhibition of Volta's experiments and products regarding electricity, especially the first battery. The interior is fairly impressive.

This is a good size square near the lake with restaurants and cafes. There is a statue of Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the electric battery, near the center of the square.

Was informed about this monument when I took a day tour to Como & I seek it out of respect for his contribution to mankind. It felt awesome to be in the town where battery was invented. Took a picture at the monument as a remembrance. Around the Volta monument there were nice cafes with view to the monument.

Located near to the Lake, this Piazza is well worth a visit if you are in Lake Como. It will give you an understanding of the history of Volta and also offers some great bars that you can sit outside and enjoy the view.

A very place and well worth incorporating into a city stroll. The whole town can be seen, in passing in under 2 hours. However if you really want to explore all the churches and pleasant squares leave a whole day.

The impressive monument to Alessandro Volta is located in Piazza Alessandro Volta. A very striking monument recognising the ground breaking work of this man. The piazza is a hive of activity & worth a visit.
