This opera house is located in Piazza Giuseppe Verdi (where else?), the square behind the cathedral.
Dating from 1813, it was soon considered too small and has an eventful history.
The ultimate renovation happened in 1984 and brought the theatre into its current form:
neo-classical facade with 6 Corinthian columns and 900 seats on 5 levels.

We went to see the opera the Barber of Sivilia on the Teatro Social Como.
It was lovely.
I advise you to check in the internet for shows in the theater. I tried to book online but I had problems with it.
We checked on the day of the show and there were tickets available (a private box).

Whilst in Como we went with friends to see a production of Nino Rota's Il capello di paglia di firenze. It was a night to remember - beautifully directed down to every last detail. This production team is one to watch - I gather they are going to several other locations with this production. The theatre itself was beautiful and the staff helpful and friendly.

Out of interest in the piece represented , which was a monologue , we also accepted the last side seats of the last level , described as reduced visibility . Too bad they should have written not only visibility , but also mobility and reduced listening . Despite being a single row with a very wide corridor behind it , there is no legroom for a normal person , the acoustics are bad because of the reverb and the visibility is not reduced , it is totally nothing . To at least listen to the monologue we were forced to leave the seats and follow the representation standing moving to the central sector.
It would be honest of the Social Theatre not to even put these seats up for sale, since you basically pay to get nothing. It would make us look better.

Watched a ballet here on new years eve. It's a pretty average theater as far as theatres go.
The sound system is not the best. And the place just wasn't maintained well with many light shades crooked/not placed properly and dirty. It was probably beautiful at one point but not anymore.

I went to a performance of Verdi's Macbeth. The opera house was built over 200 years ago and has not lost its luster. The acoustics are some of the best that I have experienced anywhere.
The orchestra may not be as tight as the Vienna Philharmonics but one senses that the members enjoy themselves. Their enjoyment is contagious. The Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti conducted with heart and displayed sincere enthusiasm, showing emotions openly - the Italian way. The singers were excellent. The audience appeared mostly to be from the area which made the whole experience even more authentic. I went to La Scala last year and can honestly say that will prefer to return to a performance at the Teatro Sociale. Actually, I can't wait to come back.

Impressive and gorgeous Neoclassical building just behind Como's Duomo next to Piazza del Popolo. Amazing facade in a beautiful place, with stunning insides.

La Traviata is one of our favorite operas so we saw it in many other operas around the world. And this particular performance turned out to be one of the most interesting and beautiful

Nice traditional theatre beautifully decorated with a huge number of boxes and quite small stalls area and stage. It feels very intimate and is reasonably priced as subsidised by the council I believe. The seats in the stalls are quite tight and a little low set even for someone of average proportions. It has a wide range of different events and worth visiting. Nice little bar restaurant as part of the theatre is also worth attending for a pre concert aperitif. It only opens at 7pm so may be quite a rush to eat there before a concert starting at 8pm

Buongiorno, si vede bene dalla prima fila o è troppo sotto al palco? Grazie.

Is there any performances in Como in the month of August 2017 from the 23rd to 30th
