We went to see the opera the Barber of Sivilia on the Teatro Social Como. It was lovely. I advise you to check in the internet for shows in the theater. I tried to book online but I had problems with it. We checked on the day of the show and there were tickets available (a private box).

“Opera as it should be”

I went to a performance of Verdi's Macbeth. The opera house was built over 200 years ago and has not lost its luster. The acoustics are some of the best that I have experienced anywhere. The orchestra may not be as tight as the Vienna Philharmonics but one senses that the members enjoy themselves. Their enjoyment is contagious. The Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti conducted with heart and displayed sincere enthusiasm, showing emotions openly - the Italian way. The singers were excellent. The audience appeared mostly to be from the area which made the whole experience even more authentic. I went to La Scala last year and can honestly say that will prefer to return to a performance at the Teatro Sociale. Actually, I can't wait to come back.

We went to see the opera the Barber of Sivilia on the Teatro Social Como.
It was lovely.
I advise you to check in the internet for shows in the theater. I tried to book online but I had problems with it.

Wonderful theatre, brilliant opera

Whilst in Como we went with friends to see a production of Nino Rota's Il capello di paglia di firenze. It was a night to remember - beautifully directed down to every last detail. This production team is one to watch - I gather they are going to several other locations with this production. The theatre itself was beautiful and the staff helpful and friendly.

Opera as it should be

Gorgeous Neoclassical Theatre

Impressive and gorgeous Neoclassical building just behind Como's Duomo next to Piazza del Popolo. Amazing facade in a beautiful place, with stunning insides.

Nice traditional theatre beautifully decorated with a huge number of boxes and quite small stalls area and stage. It feels very intimate and is reasonably priced as subsidised by the council I believe. The seats in the stalls are quite tight and a little low set even for someone of average proportions. It has a wide range of different events and worth visiting. Nice little bar restaurant as part of the theatre is also worth attending for a pre concert aperitif. It only opens at 7pm so may be quite a rush to eat there before a concert starting at 8pm

Lovely theatre, not so expensive.

Como is a small beautiful town with mountains and absolutely beautiful lake. Teatro Sociale is a small theatre for all interested in watching interesting opera.
It's closed on Sundays. Tickets can be bought in advance as well.
They have a varied list of programmes and. Do check out their website for updated list. They often have classical & modern dance performances, symphonic concerts, pop music concerts, opera etc.

If there is some kind of free exhibit going on in here while you are in town it is worth a walk to this place, otherwise, pass it by.
