    Cathedral of Como, Italy
Very beautiful and majestic gothic cathedral inside and outside. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in Como. Particularly interesting is the decoration around the side entrance called Porta della Rana.

Duomo is the pearl of the town
The main attraction here is the Duomo. I read somewhere that this is the best example of the transformation of Gothic into Renaissance. Like all Gothic cathedrals, it was built over the course of centuries. Construction of the cathedral began in 1396 and was completed almost 400 years later - in 1770, when a rococo dome was built over the cathedral. Not only the marble facade is interesting, but also the interior. The cathedral offers free tours and also has a display case detailing the history of the cathedral with illustrations and photographs.

    Beautiful Duomo………….
We visited once during our 6 day stay in Como but walked past it several times every day. It’s the focal point of Como Town. One day when we were passing there was a service on and the choir were singing, it was really very moving. We stayed in an apartment 2 mins away and heard the church bells regularly throughout the day. The cathedral was free to enter and was beautiful inside and out. The best thing was how the colours of the stone changed during the sunset and when it rained. We enjoyed our visit here and used the duomo daily to get our bearings. The piazza in front of the duomo is good too. Highly recommended when in Como.

    Stunning Cathedral
Como Cathedral also known as Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta and is a Catholic cathedral, and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is known as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy. Construction began in 1396 , and did not finish until 1770. Its a rather pretty churh with lovely sculptures on the facade and quite symetrical.

This is never going to be one of the great cathedrals of Europe however it is well worth a visit. There are some very delightful chapels and a presentation of the history and development of this church up to the current bishop. It is in English as well as Italian.

The main Cathedral of Como is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is commonly called the "Duomo". Building was started in 1396, and was completed in 1770, so you can find several styles here, from Gothic to Rococo.
There is a separate entrance for tourists, on the right side of the church - the entrance on the front is reserved for faithfuls going here to pray.
On both sides of the main nave there are nine interesting tapestries woven at the end of the 16th century.
You can see here also paintings by Bernardino Luini and Gaudenzio Ferrari.
For me, the Duomo was the top sight in Como city centre.

Very informative display with the complete history of the building and life of the diocese. I visited twice as there was so much to take in. The building is stunning and well kept. If you follow the display showing the display, there are four long display boards and the last two could be missed as they are on the other side of the aisle at the West end. It is worth taking the time to read it all. You are then directed along a route around the building which enables you to see everything.

Strolling through a compact town centre like Como, you will surely not miss the imposing Como Cathedral. Construction of this Gothic cathedral commenced at the end of the 14th century, and took almost 4 centuries to complete. The Cathedral looked resplendent at dusk during the Christmas season with the equally imposing Christmas tree at Piazza Duomo lighting up its facade and the night sky. The interior is impressive in its own right though it does not exude the wow factor unlike other bigger European cathedrals.

We visited this cathedral earlier this month. I was not expecting what I saw: such a beautiful church inside. It is quiet in there and the glass windows and the ceiling are gorgeous to look at. From outside the building is impressive too. Would I go again? Yup. And: it is for free. So, have a look inside when you are around Como.

Here we are in the beautiful city of COMO, in the Lombardia region, so the lame is fantastic, but the area around the Cathedral is a masterpiece.

This was just a walking distance from our hotel in Como, the Palace Hotel. This is a huge and beautiful Cathedral. Como Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the city of Como, Lombardy, Italy, and the seat of the Bishop of Como. It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. What fascinated me was those huge tapestries hanging on the sides and the interior of the huge ancient cathedral that was really fascinating.
