We were invited to lunch at the restaurant at the Rifugio Martina, to which we added a climb to the top of this mountain. The spectacular views from the top of the lake and to the Alpes in the distance are not to be missed. Bring a pair of binoculars and sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, as the top section is rocky and your light weight sneakers may not be enough if it has been wet..
That said a family was on the trail the day we ascended without anything special, for a walk taking about 2 hours up and 1 hour down. The trail is well marked and well worn and a moderate challenge for someone my age (>70yrs). We ascended without water which was a mistake on a hot day but most of the trail ascends through mature deciduous forest with lots of breaks giving good views and pictures. The last 25 to 30 minutes is a rougher scrabble with some loose gravel, that might have been more challenging had there been precipitation and mud.

The views from the top were spectacular, not to be missed.

The restaurant at the Refugio was a welcome reward on the descent back to the car park. If you do this hike it will remain a highlight of your visit to the Como region, and give you modest bragging rights amongst other travellers ;-)

If you want amazing views of the entire lake and to be as high as the clouds then this the hike for anyone near Lezzeno or Bellagio. We drove through Bellagio to the Rifugio Martina where we parked outside of the entry way that was marked with the sign “10 minutes by foot,” loosely translated from Italian to English by me. You will walk up to the rifugio, which you should definitely have lunch at after you finish hiking, and continue along the path up the mountain. It’s about 2 hours round trip and, at times, fairly steep.

The climb is very steep, but the reward is there: magnificent view of the lake.
For the return, take the ridge path, it's more comfortable and you can enjoy the view from many different angles.

A total of 14km long route, a good half of which is in the sun. Not suitable for children and untrained people
