It dates back to 1192 when it was built to defend the city. Be sure to take the time to look at both sides of the tower...from outside the city walls and from inside. Totally different!

The gate and wall date back to the Romans. It is interesting to see how the tower was multilevel, and you can see where the timbers would have divided the tower into separate floors.

We found this while out on a walk and were very pleased that we did.It is a huge arch that once you know its there you can use as landmark. It is also in the middle of the local market .
