- SteviefullKidderminster, United Kingdom2,066 contributionsBeautiful Bellagio gardensOn our day trip from Milan to Lake Como our boat tour dropped us off in Bellagio, so we took a walk to the gardens of this Neoclassical Villa. The admission price of 8 euros per adult wasn't too bad as we spent around an hour walking around, upon entry you get a little guide which points out all the highlights of the gardens, my particular highlights were the photo opportunities around the Pavilion looking out over the lake and the small water garden with bridges near the entrance. Despite the drizzle it was still a peaceful and enjoyable walk around the gardens and highly recommended.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 3, 2023
- mafischlHuntington, New York3,296 contributionsGorgeousThis is an absolutely wonderful garden. All sorts of interesting trees and plants. Entry fee is a very reasonable eight euros. Walk on the water down to the villa and on the return take the high path. Beautiful views all the way.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023
- Charles MVirginia184 contributionsStunning, Timeless Grounds and Museum, the Garden of the Villa Melzi, Bellagio, Lake ComoStep back in time and stroll the stunning gardens of the (still private) Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Lake Como. A short, pleasant stroll along the water from the harbor, the gardens, even in fall when we were there, are well worth a visit. Not only can you enjoy the meticulously maintained grounds, there is a detailed museum that outlines the heritage of the villa and the contributions of the family over the centuries. Highly recommend. Tip: Go early or later in the day to avoid crowds. Enjoy!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 26, 2023
- Dennis BDuluth, Georgia670 contributionsBest activity in BellagioBellagio is primarily a town of restaurants and upscale shops. If you want something otherwise to do then a visit to the Villa Melzi Gardens is a great activity. You cannot go in the Villa as it is private. The gardens are terrific. It will take about one hour to casually stroll through the garden. It follows the shoreline of LC with spectacular views.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 23, 2024
- anna b8 contributionsBeautiful historic gardensGorgeous gardens on the banks of lake Como in Bellagio. Walk on the flat front or meander up onto the layered terraces. There is an interesting museum within the garden which gives some history of its ownersVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 19, 2024
- sarahluWiltshire, United Kingdom56 contributionsFor garden lovers everywhereThe spectacular gardens of The Villa Melzi are a must if you are in Bellagio. I was fortunate enough to have free access to them for a week while renting an apartment that belonged to the Villa. If you are a garden lover take a boat trip across to the Villa Carlotta which is equally spectacular in a different way. Both have incredibly beautiful views of Lake Como. The Villa Carlotta offers a licensed restaurant as well as the gardens.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 10, 2024
- kzoggerChicago, Illinois927 contributionsLovely Place for a StrollLove this English-style garden right off the lake. It's a great place to take a stroll in the afternoon, with statues, a pond, an Antiquarium, loads of gorgeous plants and trees. A nice, relaxing escape from the crowds.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 13, 2024
- Nuha K 56Valparaiso, Indiana1,013 contributionsBeautiful botanical garden, must go.Beautiful and huge garden. I was Disappointed that the villa was closed. Probably nothing inside it. The main attraction is in its botanical garden. Nice walk, uphill and down hill. You can find a spot with a lake view and eat your lunch there. We enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it...then take the 1/2 hr train tour outside of it to relax from all the walking 😄Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 21, 2024
- KathleenVella27 contributionsBeautiful garden overlooking Lake Como. Step into another world.Absolutely magnificent garden with breath-taking views of Lake Como. Guests can also enjoy a small yet fascinating museum housing a collection of ancient Etruscan, Roman and Egyptian artefacts. The pergola overlooking the lake is truly stunning.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 5, 2024
- Soumya NayakDubai, United Arab Emirates671 contributionsGreen HeavenThis garden stretches to a few kilometers. It is sooooooo pretty, I can't explain. All hues of green are visible & all trees & shrubs have been well-manicured. There are benches to relax. Some trees are few hundred years old bcoz they have such wide trunks & are quite tall. On a pleasant day, we can spend an entire day here without getting bored. For those who have a green thumb, they will love the place even more. Definitely a must visit.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 6, 2024

Surrounding the magnificent Villa Melzi, these gardens offer an insight into the world of the privileged over the centuries. There are trees and plants from the Mediterranean and beyond, as well as immaculate lawns and even a grotto. A visit to the orangery, now a museum, is well worth it.

With this many reviews, i doubt i can say something original about this magical place. We were lucky to see it in June with azealea trees in bloom. Lovely stunning gardens, so pretty to walk around. The hidden little raised trails to blooming hydrangeas... the small museum with antiquities and Roman statues was small but perfect. You should see this place if you can in Bellagio. The price can seem high but it's preserving it's glory for everyone to enjoy for years, and that seems worth it.

The garden is breathtaking and it is very interesting to take the various paths to look for all the works inside. It is easily accessible, the ticket cost is €8 and you can bring your dog inside. Parking is difficult to find so I recommend going early.

This is absolute paradise! In the village of Bellagio, nestled at the tip of an unnamed peninsula in the middle of Lake Como, the jewel of the entire town is the Melzi Gardens along its western shore.
Named after Francesco Melzi d'Eril who built the mansion on the grounds in the early 1800s, the gardens feature countless species of plant life. Some of the trees are towering above you reminding visitors just how old they are and their rich history! The entrance pathway runs right along the lake in the most picturesque setting. This is certainly the best point of interest in Bellagio!

If you arrive by ferry, follow the promenade to the right until it ends, turn left, and then right at the road. The gardens are well manicured and offer different levels. There's a zig-zag path that takes you to the top near the entrance, and other paths up and down throughout. The views out over the lake are breathtaking, with plenty of benches throughout to take in the view and surroundings. Definitely worth a visit while in Bellagio.

This is absolutely worth the time to visit and see the gardens and the magnificent views along the lake. The trails alongside the lake and through the gardens are fun to explore - another fun and interesting item to see was the museum which discussed the villa and related history. Overall this is worth seeing

Definitely worth doing while you're in Bellagio as it's only a ten minute stroll to the south of the town. Great views up and down the lake and pleasant rolling gardens. There were a few azaleas and rhodies in bloom while we were there but little else by way of colour. But some nice feature trees all well notated. But perhaps the thing we enjoyed most was the little museum documenting the history of the villa and the gardens so remember to spend a few minutes checking this out.

Wonderful visit in awesome gardens, with a stunning view on the Como Lake.
The villa is closed but with a reasonable entrance fee it is possible to enjoy these wonderful gardens, full of amazing trees, bushes and flowers.
Superworth a visit when in Bellagio!

Beautiful and the most spectacular gardens we saw on our trip and we saw a few villas - so this was my personal favourite. The landscaping was both gorgeous and unusual too. It was spacious and well worth a visit and was set alongside the lake so you had a fantastic view from there too. A must if you are calling in at Bellagio. There is an 1 hour town walking route you can print off the internet and this Villa's gardens is on the route so you can combine the two.

Grazie in anticipo.
Written August 27, 2019
Sì, si comprano ai due ingressi della villa. Attenzione che accettano solo contanti e niente carte!

Hours list closing time at 18:30... if we arrive at 18:15 will be be allowed to walk through the gardens? Or do they make all visitors exit at 18:30? Just curious because we have dinner reservations near the gardens at 19:00 and would like to walk through on our way to dinner.

yes all have to exit by 6h30pm

Buona visita
ENJOY

Hi, is the garden open in December? I saw some comments posted in late November mentioning that the villa is closed but the garden can be accessed normally.
Written November 30, 2018
Hi Jubran5, the gardens are closed until March.
You can visit Bellagio and Varenna that are very romantic in winter.
