Somehow the whole composition of the town, cafes, shops and vendors is pleasant. Especially, full but not crowded. And a lot of small streets which are quiet but still offer so much to discover.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 12, 2024

We decided to go to Lake Como for the first time and were very impressed by our trip. The plane was delayed for two hours and after a one hour plus coach journey to Menaggio we arrived at our hotel just after midnight. We went straight to bed but on waking in the morning we opened the curtains to see the beautiful lake in front of us. The hotel was good, our room was spacious and very clean and the staff were excellent. The buffet breakfast was good as was the restaurant and bar where the staff again were efficient and very friendly. We spent some time sun bathing but also enjoyed travelling the lake on the very available ferries. We also spent time exploring the local area and all in all had a very enjoyable time.

Menaggio, Lake Como, Italy is simply wonderful. Not as busy as Varenna or Bellagio, but with all the charm of a small lake side town in Italy that you’d expect. It is well connected by ferries, but they do stop around 8pm. The town has a lovely square with a number of restaurants, cafes, shops. We always managed to get seated in the afternoon, but do recommend making evening reservations. There is a beautiful promenade for an evening stroll, and the most picturesque mini golf course right on the lake front.
we stayed at the Bella Menaggio Terrazzo apartment. The apartment is a short walk from town (10 mins max), and up hill. A bit hard with 3 large suitcases, and you have to cross a road on a tight bend. However the short walk is worth it. The view from the terrace is the best!!!.
The apartment had 3 bedrooms. Two doubles (main with nice en-suite) and a children’s room with 3 bunks. Three bathrooms, and a open plan kitchen, diner, lounge make up the apartment. It is well appointed and we found it very clean. Only wish would be for a Nespresso coffee machine. Apart from that it’s excellent. Highly recommend and would stay again.
Getting from Milan Malapense airport is a trek. Two trains, one ferry and a 10 mins walk. But it’s worth it in the end.

Lovely location on Lake Como. Menaggio is a great base to explore the lake, with easy access to other locations via boat and bus. Some great places to eat and drink and always seems to be something going on in the main square (Piazza Garibaldi)

We stayed at Bellagio and took a ferry to Menaggio. We have to leave the first ferry because there was a huge crowd and there was a rush to get in. We had a 30 minutes for the next one and we were lucky to get it - many were there who got disappointed. Due to this hurdle, we had very little time - so went around the town center, heard the church bells ring at 5pm, had an icecream and returned back.
Definitely the place has more to offer and we did not do justification in visiting it with less time available. Return ferry to Bellagio was the last one and it did not turn up for 30 minutes - we were worried, but it came subsequently and we completed our trip

Very lovely town worth visiting. We came here with the boat from Varenna. It takes 15 minutes only. Short walk to town from ferry station. I highly recommend to stroll trough town and if you want to have lunch like us don't fall for tourist traps. I highly recommend Il ristorante di Paolo, La fabrica del Gelato and Lavender shop for souvenirs and gifts! I think every small town has it but we bought ours in Menaggio. Pretty town enough for half a day visit.

Today we took a ferry across the lake to the village of Menaggio. We walked North along the beautiful promenade and continued out of town. We were surprised to find a walking/bike path that has been developed out of an abandoned train route. We walked about 10 miles round trip. A Great way to spend our day!

Great vacation spot! Nice shopping, variety of stores. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, covering all price ranges. Hotels with lake views. Plenty of walking areas. Can take the ferry to other towns along the lake.

Especially in summer you would like to bathe in Menaggio. This was possible in all the years before in the public bath with admission. Now we have to realize that this bath no longer belongs to the public (or you pay min. 55 Euro admission), but a first-class hotel. This is a shame for Menaggio! The public is pushed back to unclean sites (camping) or other unguarded, dangerous (because of boats) stretches of beach. Incomprehensible.

We are going to travel to Milan on October and we would like to visit lake Como. What should we visit? Is better traveling with the train or by bus?

We are planning 4/5 days in Lake Como area. We will be arriving in Milan and then leaving Como and go to Venice. We will not have a car. Would Menaggio be a good spot ?
Written September 14, 2018
If you go to Menaggio and take the ferry in 10 minutes you will get to Varenna. It's much better than Menaggio. I spent 3 days in Menaggio and after a short visit in Varenna I was really impressed.

We (2 o.a.p's!) will be staying for 7 days at Cadenabbia from 22nd to 29th Sept. and would like to do a day trip by bus from Cadenabbia (or Menaggio, if the bus does not stop at Cadenabbia) to Lugano, as it sounds very scenic and enjoyable. Do you know if that is possible, where would we book tickets, and how often do the buses run?
THis will be our first visit to Como and Switzerland , although we have been to Italy several times, so any help and advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone! We are planning a short holiday in Menaggio with our children. What is the best things to do, see, eat and drink there? Thanks in advance!!!

Hmmm. I personally wouldn't recommend cycling but plenty of people do. Roads are just a bit crazy and busy at times. Plenty of boats and the ferry to take you over to the other places around Lake Como

Hola. Viajar en unos dĂas y desearĂa contratar un paseo en barco desde Menaggio. Es factible? Quisiera ir a Varenna y Belaggio.

To be honest, I have no experience in renting a boat there. I didn't even have the idea to rent one as the Como Lake offers a lot of public traffic by ships and ferries.
All the lakes I know are limited for individual traffic offering only electroboats or similar vehicles.

Hi, Carrie. What would you like to know about this attraction? I am looking for the best DIY for the express up the mountains - we have cars with us so don't want to get an organised trip as we are a party of 8. regards

Hi,
We're going to Menaggio the first week in May. It will be our second visit here as we absolutely think Menaggio is the best part of Lake Como. On our first visit we did a day trip to Lugano on the bus. What a wonderful experience. On this upcoming trip we'd like to go to St. Moritz for the day. From previous posts it sounds like a very long day and that you just get to St. Moritz and have to turn around and head back to Menaggio. Is it worth it? Am I wrong in assuming that? I'd appreciate any input/

Hi,
Were looking to travel to Menaggio in August and i was wondering if anyone could provide us with a guide to getting there and back from Lugano airport?
Many thanks
Written July 25, 2016
You have picked a different airport to what is normally picked but when you come out of the airport get on the via strade 340/ss340 until you get to como sud and once there follow the road with bennets on the left and then at the roundabout third exit and follow the road up the slope ( will make sense when your there ) and then follow the road though the tunnels and along the road for about 30ish minutes, if your not very confident about driving in narrow streets or the wrong side of the road this isnt for you!

Hi, we are planning to take a day trip from Milan to visit Lake Como in Oct. We saw a lot of good feedback about Lake Como, Menaggio and Bellagio. Can you share your experience regarding getting the train ticket to Lake Como and also suggest a travelling route/plan for these area? Thanks for your help.
