The location is somewhat hard to find; I had to ask for directions twice, but fortunately Cremona is an exceptionally friendly town. The museum is located within an old church complex, and it's not clear that there is a museum there until you enter the courtyard. As of June 2013 it was not closed.

The museum has been recently (2009) renovated, and all the finds are well displayed and given appropriate cultural context. Signs are in Italian with English summaries.

The highlights are a Roman nymphaeum, a mosaic floor with a labyrinth, and a beautiful column capital with lions. The finds are not of the level you would see in some of the bigger museums, but the setting is more congenial and the material is better presented and explained than what you would see in the Vatican, for example.

Admission was 3 euros for the non-reduced price, and the few people on staff were seriously some of the friendliest, most relaxed museum people I've met in Italy. A much more pleasant experience than some of the big museums.

Step into this newly created museum and you are bounced back into Roman times : there's a villa (with rich mosaic floors), a garden with a gracious fountain, a temple and lots of statues. Besides, they offer you the opportunity to take part in the archeological excavation still going on in the premises. Amazing!!!

This museum is a little jewel that should appeal to all lovers of Roman artifacts. The fact that the collection is housed in the deconsecrated Romanesque church of San Lorenzo only adds to the visual splendor. The lighting is lovely, the bilingual labels are good, the positioning of the objects is done to maximize their impact on your field of vision. We are so glad we were told about this museum, it's a bit off the beaten path but well worth finding if you care to see how life was lived in Roman days of Cremona's long history.

Closed for a whole month without explanation. It’s August a very touristy month but it seems the staff of San Lorenzo, after months of Covid holidays, and already opening the museum for barely 4 hours a day have decided that a beach holiday was in order. Don’t bother visiting it won’t reopen before September.

I visited Roman sights and museums all around the Med. This one did not particularly add to it, but it was nice enough and reinforced what I have seen anywhere else. From Hadrians Wall to Amman. The Romans were amazing.

It was a real surprise to discover that in an old deconsecrated church there was a collection of archaeological treasures! Even more surprising was admiring them in a setting that was really well done, looked after and illuminated correctly.

This beautifully presented archeological museum features the church excavations as well as Roman findings in Cremona. All displays are in Italian, English and Braille. The history of the city is told through artifacts. It is easy to navigate.

There was a civic festival of little interest for tourists in the entire historic city center, so we took a chance on the history museum just a couple of blocks away, and were not disappointed. It gave a good general overview of the history of the area, and it was reasonably modern and well laid out. It would definitely be nice if it was raining outside, and it might be air conditioned in the summer, to give a break from the heat.
