Right behind the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is this small temple built in the 11th century in a Romanesque style. A little gem of Lombard Romanesque architecture with a circular plan virtually intact. It has a lot of history and deserves attention. With the enormity of Bergamo's wonders, it's easy to overlook.

located directly behind the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, this little temple alone or better to say the bishops palace next to it with wonderful fresco paintings were worth it to come to Bergamo. asking at the reception desk, they turned on the light for us, and we stayed there stunning for an hour... amazing.

The temple is a very small building, yet it's definitely worth seeing. It might not seem like something spectacular, especially in comparison with other churches but it has a very long history.

We stumbled upon this small structure while roaming the Citta Alta in the vicinity of Piazza Vecchia. Later, we found out it was a temple, almost 10 centuries old. It is very easy to pass by and not even pay any attention to it, moreover if it is closed as it was at the time we were there. Next time we go to Bergamo, we will visit it. Hopefully, the restoration it's been under, will have completed.
If we had seen the murals inside, I would have probably given 5 stars!

Romanic style chapel of the middle age sited beyond the Santa Maria Maggiore cathedral, with characteristic stone walls, vault, and modern paintings inside

Very old (12C) temple tucked away behind Santa Maria Maggiore but worth a quick visit. Can't go inside, unfortunately, at least it was closed when I was there

This was built in 1133 and became what is known as the Bishops Chapel in 1169. It is remarkable how well the old building has been maintained. Access to inside the building was not available but those adjacent were visited.

Circle around the streets and you will find this gem tucked in between some other buildings. Look for the signs and walk up and around this beautiful old church.

We passed it without knowing that this is a temple :(. When I was watching the picture from Citta Alta, I saw this beautiful romanesque building.

Interesting monument or temple, when I was there, the entrance was closed due to repairs, still is a very interesting example of very early Christian temples.
