After walking in the Old Town we discovered this beautiful botanical garden nearby (I saw it on a map). We climbed up 120 stairs and walked around. It’s free and you can relax or have a picnic in this nice, quiet park. There were lots of plants and flowers but they haven't bloomed yet. The view was magnificent, we saw the lower town. You should wear comfty shoes a take some water with you.

Not to be missed - an absolute gem . Lovely gardens with the huge range of plants all having QR codes. Seats throughout and great views over the city. And no charge - I couldn’t even find a donation box sadly

10 mins walk from the Natural Science museum,a little uphill.
Small so easy to get around . Seated areas to relax. Toilets on site.
No glasshouses that I could see.

Whilst walking away from the centre of the Citta Alta, we stumbled across signs to these gardens and decided to take a look. You need to walk past a gate which looks like the entrance and then you will see another opening which has a big board up. However as there is no fee for this attraction, I really don't think it matters if you go in the exit first and come out of the entrance, it's not as though there is a particular order.

I have to say this was one of my favourite days. It was late September with a mix of the end of Summer and the start of Autumn. It was very quiet and peaceful and it was lovely just walking round looking at the plants, admiring the views and having the odd sit down on a variety of great look out benches. I actually don't know much about plants or flowers, (can't even grow tomatoes), but I just loved looking at them all. The air is particularly fresh and you can almost feel your lungs filling up with clean air. The views are very Swiss and with the odd large houses dotted around, we enjoyed playing "which house would we like."

If you like cactus you'll love the greenhouse full of them and look out for the growing pineapples and bamboo wind chimes.

There is a loo there, I saw a sign but don't know what it's like. Refreshments are not available so either take snacks and water or bare in mind before going.

As for the steps maybe a problem if you are elderly, have health problems or mobility problems otherwise nothing to it. And there are places and benches for you to have a rest - frankly if you've made it as far as the entrance (which involves a hill), you should be OK!

From the Citta Alta its a short walk up to the botanic garden, but it's all uphill! I've been a few times over the years, its quite small and not that spectacular. What I like is that it provides some good views of the vale behind Bergamo, its rare to see other people there, occassionally you see a gardener sort of person just getting on with a bit of gardening and most important it's a lovely place just to spend half an hour or more relaxing and enjoying the the peace and tranquility overlooking the sub-alps.

We went there on a Sunday morning, and it was delightful. Apart from the botanical aspect, the views are gorgeous, and being in the morning, it was quiet. There are nooks and corners and seating areas, and it must be lovely to live near there and go and sit and read a book or just enjoy the peace and quiet.

You have to clinb a little from where the bus or funicular leaves you (opposite direction from the Cathedral) but is very green and the view from the top is spectacular. The access is free.

A lovely little garden perched on the hillside just outside the walls. You'll need to like gardens but some curious plants and quiet places to sit and enjoy the view

It's quite a climb. Check the opening hours because outside the season the garden is closed in the middle of the day, and you have to walk longer to get to the main entrance. It's free of charge, really tiny, but the views are great. There's a Japanese citrus tree at the entrance (in the autumn it has aromatic fruits) and strawberry trees just next to it.
