When I went to Bergamo, all locals adviced me to take the funicular even though there is a bus to the upper town. Surprisingly there was a huge line of people waiting to get on the funicular. It has only about 40 seats so this is the reason. You should buy the tickets first on the machine or with the seller and then go to the line. I did not have to wait for so long. The ride with the funicular is super fast so technically you spend more time on the waiting line.

Way quicker than Hogwart-express, and it takes you into really magical place - Citta Alta. Must see that when you're in Bergamo!

One of the attractions of Bergamo. The old railway is quite good way to get to the Citta Alta . Charming, not only provides fast transport, but also beautiful views of Bergamo. Built in 1887, it connects the upper town with the town center. You can buy a ticket at the ticket office, but you can also buy a 24-hour ticket for public transport in Bergamo. It entitles you to travel around the city, to the airport and by funicular.

My wife and I are staying in a lovely apartment in this old town centre. Great food and wine not expensive, beautiful bakeries, everything you need and bus routes on the door step. Train station 15 minute bus journey 2 euros, the train to the lakes or Rome or Venice, it really is a wonderful part of the world. We are spending 9 nights here 750euros well worth it first class cookery 1 on 1 classes with the locals we have travelled world wide and this place for us ranks 1 of our best.
