A wonderful work of Giacomo Manzu, which he gave to his hometown
Oct 2019
One of the most remarkable works of Giacomo Manzu. The monument, built and donated to the city by Giacomo Manzu in 1977, is located in the center of Bergamo Bassa. The monument is about 3 meters high, made of bronze. On the main side of the monument there is a killed young man hanging upside down with a standing woman, wife or mother next to him, on the other side is a dedication by the sculptor is engraved. It is one of the most beautiful and important modern art sculptures.

Provocative monument
Oct 2019 • Family
We passed this monument by coincidence and wondered about the meaning.

The front shows two persons and the back an Italian writing starting with “Partigiano”.

We instantly had the song “Bella Ciao” 🎶 in mind...

I was interested but could not figure out what it said and had to ask my son in law to help me out on this one. It was worth a look and some reflection on the past.

Confronting tribute to the Partisans

If the shoes in Budapest is one of the more subtle memorials, this is one of the most confronting. See it and remember their bravery.

Poetic, small, human

Simple and effective monument. It stands in the middle of the vivid city. You can find bronze background with a simple poem and two figures, as centuries ago Christ and mourning St. Magdalen. Girl is standing sad before the victim, a young man, hanging down. Very powerful sculpture of Manzu is understandable to all humans, young and old.

This monument is in a small city park in the area called "Porta Nuova", -The New Gate. One can relax a little bit in this park, while taking a glimpse of Bergamo's everyday life in its busiest street. The monument is actually a sculpture of a man who's hanging upside down. The last time I show it someone had put a live rose in the man's hand, which was very touching.
