A nice place to visit, if you are staying in Milan, is Bergamo. It is easily accessible by a 50-minute train and can be visited in one day. When you arrive in Bergamo, you will meet your guide at the funicular, the cable car station. The tour will focus on the upper city, which is where the medieval city center is located. Once you arrive you will visit Piazza Vecchia, the main square of Bergamo and the Campanone, the bell tower, which is also a panoramic point of the city. Afterwards you will visit the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, from the Romanesque period, and decorated with the extravagance of the Baroque style. Other main attractions of your tour in Bergamo are the Antico Lavatoio and the Cittadella Viscontea. And best of all, Gelato! You will stop at the ancient “Gelateria”, where the favorite flavor of the Italians was invented, Stracciatella, milk-based ice cream with chocolate chips.

One of the most remarkable works of Giacomo Manzu. The monument, built and donated to the city by Giacomo Manzu in 1977, is located in the center of Bergamo Bassa. The monument is about 3 meters high, made of bronze. On the main side of the monument there is a killed young man hanging upside down with a standing woman, wife or mother next to him, on the other side is a dedication by the sculptor is engraved. It is one of the most beautiful and important modern art sculptures.

We passed this monument by coincidence and wondered about the meaning. The front shows two persons and the back an Italian writing starting with “Partigiano”. We instantly had the song “Bella Ciao” 🎶 in mind... Is this a helpful review? Then please give me a "Thumbs up Thank FrankGeisler" by clicking the button below.

I was interested but could not figure out what it said and had to ask my son in law to help me out on this one. It was worth a look and some reflection on the past.
