Bergamo is really a beautiful town not far away from Milan: by funicular we will go up to the medieval town of Bergamo through a picturesque valley. We will walk to the ancient town center and see the following:
1) The cathedral of Bergamo for its from 13th to16th. century architecture, you will see important paintings of Lorenzo Lotto and other famous Italian 16th century paintings and some tapestries as an excellent example of "Barocco" style church.
2) Then we will step inside the chapel of Captain Colleoni, a 16th century amazing mausoleum and chapel wanted by captain Colleoni to celebrate his power.
3) We will proceed to the ancient city tower for a panoramic view around the valleys of Bergamo.
4) We will walk to the City castle, a 15th century fortress looking at the panorama around.
5) We will see inside another important church some frescoes from the 13th century.
This is a private guided tour for your group only or only for you if you are a single tourist.

When you get off the funicular and have never visited here before, you are amazed when you walk out of the station. Then you wander through the narrow streets which are filled with bars, boutiques and restaurants, then you fall upon this amazing piazza which is just filled with history. There are restaurants and bars with outdoor seating which surround a lovely water fountain. The whole place is lovely!

Piazza Vecchia is the main and the most beautiful square in Bergamo, in the heart of the Citta Alta. In the past, it was the center of Bergamo's political power, and today it is a popular meeting place. The square was built in the Renaissance style in 15th century, and in its center is the Contarini Fountain from 1780. Next to it is, among others, Palazzo Nuovo, currently the Angelo Mai Library, one of the most important historical libraries in Italy. The Palazzo della Ragione from the end of 1100 and the city tower called Il Campanone also overlook the square. The square is always full of tourists visiting Citta Alta. An absolutely wonderful place during the day, at night, in summer and in winter. A really wonderful square, a must see for anyone coming to Bergamo.

Bergamo is well worth a visit, easily reached by train, but thoroughly recommend a long weekend for the delights and walks in this area of the old town City Alto.
