Fantastic view
Jul 2021
Not all towers in tourist places deserve visiting, and not all views are enjoyable. This tower is exceptionally good: views are really fantastic. A must if you are in Bergamo.

Definitely worth visiting
Oct 2019
Campanone was built between the 11th and 12th centuries and belonged to the Suardi family, one of the most powerful families in the city at that time. The tower, from which Piazza Vecchia and Piazza del Duomo could be seen from above, turned out to be a real landmark. A few centuries later, the tower was taken over by the municipality of Bergamo, which placed the bells there. The tower also housed city prisons in the fourteenth century. Campanone was initially 37 meters high, but as a result of continuous expansion work, it has now reached 56 meters, making it the tallest tower in the city. From the top you can enjoy views of both the upper and lower town, the surroundings . It is one of the city's main monuments and a significant tourist attraction. Highly recommended, really great city view.

good climb and excellent views

Added bonus if the huge bells go off when you are at the top! The views are magnificent. Apparently on a good day you can see the Spires of Il Duomo in Milan

Incredible Views

The views from the tower were amazing and it was great finding out the timeline of some of the buildings surrounding the tower. There are steps or an elevator to reach the top of the tower. The ticket was €5 each but this also gave you access to the museum. The museum was really interesting and the technology added to the stories being told. Well worth a visit.

Nice view and elevator

Old tower providing great view over the old "high" city and further. With an elevator to get to the top!
Only downside: it was quite hazy, so not too far to see...

nice view from the tower..

The tower view of the city is great. they have an elevator but to reach the elevator you need to do a handful of steps (maybe 3 and another 3 a few steps later).
the exhibit is in Italian for the interactive displays, which look reasonably interesting but i couldn't follow. there is some written text in english but not enough to make it meaningful. maybe there was an audio guide available? maybe ask.

Super fit as I am , I'd spent most of the week covering miles of museum floors and countless castle steps. Solution ?
This newish glass lift which takes you almost to the top in seconds.
Ticket is 5 euros and well worth it for such great views.

Historical landmark in Citta Vecchia, Bergamo
Feb 2019
We came here for our first time to Bergamo with my son. The Citta Alta or Citta Vecchia is an amazing place to come. Full of history and with beautiful churches like Chiesa di Santa Maria di Bergamo, it is worthwhile visiting and having lunch or dinner here, or just a brunch with a "bicchieri" of an Italian heartful wine. The Torre Civica is a Campanile, or a place where bells are placed to celebrate different important religious events. You have to pay a ticket which is about 5 Euros and you can access the top of the tower by the lift or the staircase. At the top you will appreciate the beautiful city of Bergamo lying down , and it is a great spot for taking pictures.

Great views
Nov 2018 • Couples
For the best views over Bergamo, definitely stop by. Second from top platform is reached by elevator, so accessible even for the less athletic, but the stairs to the topmost platform are small and narrow. Bells play right above the heads on the top platform, so time your visit in case you have strong feelings about being so near the bells.
