Off the beaten track, but adjacent to the park surrounding Villa Durazzo, the church was a haven of calm and tranquility in an otherwise bustling Santa Margherita. Perched on the edge of a hill, overlooking the sea, it is definitely worth the walk up to explore the area.

It was worth the climb up a wide staircase from the marina promenade. Smallish, but ornate, with a statue garden and villa next door.

This imposing looking church really stands out as you approach Santa Margherita Ligure by boat. As you climb the steps to enter the church, the inside is equally magnificient. There are panels of painting on the ceiling which exxtend all the way to the altar. The altar itself is recessed from the congregation in its own room with large paintings on either side of the wall. Even though this is not a huge church, it is not that small, and it imparts a feeling of awe as you marvel at the intricate layout.

Adjoins the Villa Durazzo and gardens. Can be entered from there or by the stairs leading up from the waterfront, which also pass the little Oratorio di Sant'Erasmo. It is easier to go up to the Villa Durazzo through the garden grounds, visit the church and exit via the downhill stairs. The interior was far grander than we had expected, and much more light than the interiors of many other churches, in part because of the marble, gold and many chandeliers. It is really beautiful and when we visited there were no other people there at all. Combine a visit with the Villa Durazzo and gardens next door.
