Santa Margherita Ligure is a picturesque seaside village that really can't keep your interest for more than a couple of days. The beaches are filthy, the place is full of stagnant elderly or ship loads of cruising tourists, shopping is very limited and unless you want to pay a small fortune to lie on the beach, then this place is... Santa Margherita was our favorite stop on our tour of northern Italy. We spent 2 days here and enjoyed walking the quiet streets and exploring all the sights. Beautiful beaches and clear blue water. Also enjoyed the delicious, fresh seafood! Many of the beautiful buildings are decorated with hand-painted trompe l'oeil.

Dear old Santa Margherita Ligure is asleep the wheel. It needs to get contemporary and attract visitors under 60 more effectively. It has natural charms but needs to develop modern attributes before it becomes a retirement village.

Amazing waterfront and place to visit, with great little shops and cafes, very friendly locals with beautiful views over the ocean.

This is a throwback to what every community should be. Friendly people, everything walking distance, markets in the streets, etc. Like an old neighborhood where everyone is out every evening!

A charming town centrally located that offers great restaurants, shopping and hotels. Walking distance to the train station and ferry boats that will take you to Cinque Terre within an hour. Only 5kms away from Portofino. The beaches arent the best but they still serve you well if you want to refresh in the ocean. A great option for those... More

Loved visiting this city. Small and charming. Had an amazing walk from Santa Margherita L. to Portofino. Really worth especially if the day is nice.
