We took the cable car up to the top of the hill, primarily to get a good look at the entire city of Rapallo. We were pleasantly surprised by the cute little church at the top that had painted stained glass and pretty mosaics. It felt more like a place of worship and pilgrimage than a tourist destination.

Enjoy the inexpensive finicular (cable car) that takes you from the modest parking lot to the very top of the mountains where this church sits above Rapallo. There is a stairway but you''d have to be nuts to try to climb either up or down. The Church is active in the adoration of the Virgin Mother with many chapels and... More

The cable car trip was nice, it would have been one heck of a walk. The views from the church and the top are OK, the local vegetation and buildings get in the way a bit but without them it would be ugly. So, nice trees, you get some nice, restricted views back to Rapallo and a chance to eat.... More

I enjoyed the trip up in the cable car to visit the Santuario do Montallegro. At the top the view was fantastic and the setting so serene and peaceful. A visit to the cafe before the trip down wrapped up the experience nicely.

A great trip that includes a cable car ride with fantastic views, a visit to an important Sanctuary and the opportunity to enjoy beautiful countryside on foot or mountain bike. There is a cafe next to the top cable car terminus and a bar restaurant between there and the Sanctuary and also a lift for elderly/disabled visitors between the upper... More

This church was built because of a vision by Giovanni Chichizzola in 1557 of the Virgin Mary. To reach the church you can travel on the cable car (Folgaria) from Rapallo; a journey of around 8 minutes up the mountain of 600 Metres. The views of the mountains and the sea are magnificent. The cost of a ticket is 5.50... More

The cable car ride is pretty good and on a hot day, it was lovely and cool at the top. The sanctuary building is very impressive, and there is a very reasonably priced cafe at the cable car stop. It is very peaceful and quiet, so if you need a couple of hours away from the biz, this is great.... More

Apart from easy access as the funicular station is short walking distance from the center and magnificent alley towards the church and monastery i strongly recommend to turn left after going around the church and make a nice long walk along the ridges of local mountains. It's absolutely great in the summer as the temperature lower there by few degrees... More

If you are staying in the Rapallo area a visit to Santuario di Montallegro is a must.Take the cable car unless you are a serious hiker or a moutain goat. The views from the grounds adjacent to the church are like looking from an aircraft. Inside the church is just spectacular.Just a beautiful place to visit.

Tip: Church closes at 12 noon sharp for lunch break. Plan to visit on a clear day to take advantage of the view from the tram.
