This impressive church is a quiet oasis in the historic district which was filled with an outdoor market the day we visited. There is a helpful guide in English which details the very interesting history of the church,

This was my church growing up. Walk in there and you'll be awed by the frescoes and overall majestic appearance of the interior, filled with paintings, marble and the ever-present scent of incense. Sunday masses are quite busy but well worth a trip if anything to witness the singing and sacred rites. The church has catered to the neighborhood youth for centuries, and is a priceless asset to the community. It's a short walk to the train station, and to "via Prione", a narrow , pedestrians-only road filled with shops, where you can still bask in the feeling of long-gone eras. Be sure to visit the civic gardens (giardini pubblici) and in the morning, stop at the farmers' market on Corso Cavour. Good eats-wise, "La Pia" is the oldest and most renown pizza place in town. Be sure to grab some "farinata" while you're there. It's made with garbanzo bean flour and truly different from anything you'll ever have in the States. Smokey, soft in the middle and crunchy along the edges, it's truly an outstanding treat, best enjoyed with fresh "stracchino" cheese (reminiscent of cream cheese, but creamier). La Spezia is also one of the best places for focaccia, so grab a slab and eat it on the go. This town is extremely well connected with the public transport grid, especially trains-wise and an ideal "home base" for visiting notoriously pricey towns like Pisa, Florence, Genoa, or venturing out to see the numerous nearby ancient castles both in Liguria and Toscana.

Chiesa di Nostra Signora della Neve is lovely looking church. We discovered it by chance while walking around the streets, which is really the best way to get to know a place. On the day there were street markets on the street, stretching all along the whole length of the road. We were not able to go inside the church as it was closed, but we managed to enter the steel fence in the front, as the gate was open, but were not able to see much.

The architecture of the church in this region is exceptionally rich and so nice, with marble and stripes, many white marble , why it's called delle Neve I think, but I'm not sure; the church is ligurian style and very nice.

Calm environment in the middle of a hectic trip - beautiful ceiling frescos in a quiet setting. This is an active parish so you may walk in during a service.

This impressive Catholic church in La Spezia is located in the historic center of the city. Unfortunately we have to travel to Pisa so we just walked around outside.

This impressive Catholic church in La Spezia is located in Viale Garibaldi, the historic center of the city. It is not an old church, because it was completed in 1901, but it is famous for the ancient painting of the Madonna, made by unknown artist in the 15th century.
