Stone stairway with planting. Just satisfactorily maintained. Don't make a special trip to see this but of limited interest if passing by.

Since much of the city is built on steep hillsides, there is one main way to go up or down--stairwells. Some are more picturesque than others depending on the residents. Many have pretty flower boxes, colorful pastel homes and potted plants while others are "plain jane". The alternative to traversing these "scalinate" is to locate the 2 funiculars which will take you to the top where you will find the Castello di San Giorgio. You will be rewarded with spectacular views of the city, harbor and sea.

In general, the access to the hills of La Spezia is on a steep topography, and a good opportunity to exercise. As you ascend, the gulf reveals itself in all its magnificence.
Stairs represent a challenge, because towards the hills the topography is steep. It should be remembered that, however, at the end of the Via Bandassarre Biassa (far north), there is a communal lift that allows access to the entrance of Castello San Giorgio.

There are plenty of staircases in La Spezia. Due to the peculiar landscape, the beautifully hilly terrain and the need to get around, there are steps in many areas. Any where you see steps you climb them and if the locals can do it, then we, as tourists have no alternative but to follow suit. It's quite exciting! And they keep you fit too!

La Spezia and its territory is a very special region, it is located between sea and hills and it s definitely fascinating to see and walk in a very characteristic form of architecture like the La Spezia stairs.

Well, this is certainly the highly unusual landmark, but it was very interesting visiting and climbing several of numerous staircases in the city. You can find them almost everywhere, they are unique, picturesque and entertaining little monuments dedicated to city’s history and every day’s life.

Concrete stairs going up the hill with tropical plants. They look pretty cool but I would not make a special effort to come look at these.

These steps start in the Historic Centre and lead up to St Georges Fort. A nice walk up the hill with good views (probably better on a nice day!)

In the old centro storico of la Spezia you can climb this old charmant high stairs , the Scalinata San Giorgio, to arrive to the centro, but there is also a lift I think; sometimes it's very interesting to climb old stairs and see around the old town.
