We spent several hours here marveling at the exhibits and learning about the criticality of LaSpezia as a strategic naval base and location. La Spezia didn't even exist before the navy realized that this is a very important strategic location - the town was built by the navy. We especially loved the Marconi exhibit. And we marveled at the ship figurehead exhibit, incredible and breathtaking. And the underwater diving exhibit! The early and primitive torpedo methodology! And for us, the unique perspective of the WW2 battles that were fought in the sea here, since Italy was of course under Mussolini and not a part of the Allied offensive - so the "wins" for Italy were against the Allies - so interesting to see that. Well organized, though be sure to pick up the two brochures in English when you buy your ticket at the desk, as very few signs are in English.

The museum is a quiet get away on the waterfront of La Spezia. Everyone needs to show proof of vaccination. There is a wonderful display of ship figureheads and low speed human driven torpedos.

The La Spezia's naval museum is a treasure trove of nautical history, focusing on the artifacts of Italy's navy, but also including maritime artifacts from around the world. They feature an impressive collection of historic figureheads, ship modes, lighthouse lenses, canons, torpedoes, and more!

For the price you pay it was well worth it.The ships figureheads are superb and are probably the best of any where in the world.

Visited this naval museum whilst on a cruise stopover in early April. Entrance cost was just 1.55 euro per person. It's a small museum but with some really interesting exhibits such as a 2 person submarine , weaponry such as rifles and torpedoes but I particularly liked the upstairs room containing a number of ship figurehead. Most of the descriptions on the exhibits were in Italian but it was pretty easy to understand the exhibits. When you approach the naval base where the museum is located cross the most and look to your left. Don't go through the tunnel as that leads to a secure military area. Would definitely recommend a visit

Took a little detour to check out the museum. Great hardware, particularly relating to early radio and torpedo development. Also some really interesting models and other artifacts. Unfortunately, a lot of the information is only in Italian so if you don't know naval history it can be a bit confusing.
Not worth a trip by itself but considering most people will be in the area for Cinque-Terre / Florence anyways, it is worth your while! Also, the fee is nominal and goes towards a good cause!

The museum covers Italian naval history with a focus on items and information related to La Spezia. A funny mix of old artifacts in good condition and things in poor condition (particularly the old equipment scattered around a garden outside). Only some information is in English, so you'll be looking at some items without any knowledge of what they are. Very cheap, only about €1.50, so a good rainy day activity.

I visited the museum on a Saturday, I was the only visitor but it may well have been because it was an amazing sunny day. The entrance fee is €1,50, there is no audioguide but there is a thin leaflet with some sort of explanation which I did not purchase. There are lot of beautiful polena (figureheads) but the part that most impressed me is the area dedicated to encryption. From enigma to the first attempts of encryptions going back to the

We were looking forward to visiting this museum and checked out reviews and their website, but at the door the sign said "masks" so we dutifully put on our masks and entered. Alas the door guy indicated that the blue ones that surgeons wear were inadequete, only one of us had a K95 so the visit was aborted. Please not, there were no other tourists in the place, there was no mention of K95s needed on their website, only the public transport system in Italy now mandates masks, they are recommended in some places but generally noone wears them so it was a very disappointing, upsetting wast of time. A bit of common sense would not have gone astray, it's a big place, it was empty and we were wearing masks!!

We visited the museum in about 2 hours although some of it was closed for renovations and covid, and we had a great time. Do recommend for guns and cannons enthusiasts.
