Touring Cinque Terra with Umberto was fantastic. He is a highly knowledgeable, informative, and personable guide. Walking through the towns, learning their histories, popping into small wine making "shops", all while having Umberto interact with locals was terrific. We also took a boat excursion to see Cinque Terre from the ocean and it is such a great way to see the beauty of this area. Highly recommend using CT Tours di Umberto Cattani.

We used Walkabout Florence tours to explore Cinque Terre, and they did a great job. Chris was our guide and he was amazing--very knowledgeable about the area and enthusiastic. I knew he did this tour often and had repeated the same info over and over, but he made it seem fresh and interesting. There were also a lot of options for those that didn't want to do the hike, but I was looking forward to it. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I can't wait to go back!

This was the highlight of our trip. My husband and I spent a week in Florence doing day trips into Tuscany. We had heard how difficult it was to get to Cinque Terre and then I found Umberto's Tour through trip advisor. Our tour guides name was Christian, and he was absolutely fabulous. Christian picked us up in Florence at our hotel, and was on time waiting for us in our lobby. It was a two hour drive over to Cinque Terre, but during our ride Christian told us history and information about the places we were travelling through. Very informative. He drove us right into each town and made us the most fabulous lunch reservation at a spot called Belforte. We had probably the best table in the restaurant overlooking the ocean. We had a lovely two hour lunch with lots of wine and great food, never feeling rushed. Christian would walk us through each town and give us the history, and then would give us time to walk around on our own. Unfortunately the sea was rough so we were unable to take the ferry from one town to the next. But if the weather is good, you should do this. It would give you a different perspective from the water looking at the towns built into the cliffs. At the end of the day we were driven back to Florence, right to the front doors of our hotel. This tour is a definite must to do. An amazing Day for sure !!!! Don't forget your camera. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you Christian.

We hired Umberto to take our family of 5 to Cinque Terre as an alternative to the cruise line's shore excursion. Highly recommend him--he was engaging and knowledgeable and was one of our favorite guides of our 2 week trip. He picked us up at our ship in Livorno and drove us to the first village, walked with us and share a lot of information about the area, and got us situated with the boat to take us to the next two villages (he drives the van to the last village while you go by boat with stopovers to intermediate ones). Very picturesque--the view by sea is fabulous. He met us at the pier in the last village and showed us around, then let us have some free time to wander. We opted to get snacks rather than sit for a longer lunch so we could make a stop in Pisa. One of us has difficulty walking and we were able to go at our own pace and make needed adjustments to our day that a cruise line excursion would never have been able to do. (Although I don't recommend the Cinque Terre for people with mobility issues because so much of the beauty of it can only be experienced hiking or walking the trails, etc) Wonderful guide, highly recommended. Would love to go back and tour Carrara with him in the future.

Our first time to Italy was planned with a trip to Cinqueterre. We stayed in Portofeno and took the train to Monterosso and met up with our guide Andrea. He gave us so much information about the villages and the area. We walked four of the five villages, and were thrilled to see everything. I can't describe the beauty of the area. It has been the highlight of our stay so far. I'm sure you can do it on your own, but then you don't get the stories and the history of the area. He also set us up at a wonderful restaurant for lunch, and visited a small shop that a local artist owns. His paintings were beautiful. So use the tour group and you won't be disappointed.

We booked the Cinque Terre Tour for foodies and met Umberto in La Spezia. Our day was filled with LOADS of stories and history about the Cinque Terre as well as some great food.
Umberto is very knowledgeable and helpful and tries to give you a full experience of the place. We went by boat to some villages and toured together, then had some time to explore on our own, while Umberto went to organize typical food items for us try. We walked through some of the villages and took the train back.
Easily one of the best days, if not the best day of our vacation!
Thank you, Umberto!

Having enjoyed a 12 day cruise around the Mediterranean, the tour with Umberto Cattani was unquestionably the best. Umberto is very personable, a wealth of information and really makes an effort to make you experience the very best. Our trip was well balanced with enough time at each village so not to miss any highlight. He is a gentleman, makes you feel welcome, is not pushy and is flexible to modify the tour at your discretion. He was prompt on picking us up and and dropping us off at the port of Livorno. I would rate our experience 10 out of 10.
I would not hesitate to use his services again on our next trip to that area.

We did a day trip from Florence to Cinque Terre during early January 2016 (winter) and had a fantastic time. We booked the day trip with Umberto Cattani ... he picked us up in Florence at our hotel in a luxury Mercedes van and drove us to Cinque Terre, providing history and local knowledge during the trip. Cinque Terre is an exceptional place to visit, even in winter, due to the wonderful scenery and heritage. The trip was definitely a success though due to Umberto who tailored the day to suit our needs (family with two young children) and even provided a stop at Pisa on the return to Florence. Umberto is a professional, experienced and personable guide who made this day trip a delight. I highly recommend booking your day trip with Umberto if you want to get the best experience.

From Montecatini we paid 70Euros each for a coach trip to the five lands to join in the 'scrabble' wishing to see the quaint villages from the sea. There were cruise ships in and consequently the local ferry boats vying between the more accessible villages from the sea were overwhelmed!! Boarding onto and off these little boats is so hazardous they would not be allowed in some countries. Except for totally calm conditions and then the numbers of passengers would be restricted. In a swell these boats are dangerous as I'm sure any tourist who has had to walk those 'planks' would agree.
Yes from the sea the villages look quaint, peaceful and inviting(if you can see them from the overcrowded boats). Once ashore the villages are full of tourist, most of them queuing to get back on the boat you have just left.
Was it good value for money? NO!
Would I return ? Perhaps off season, via the good rail system and then consider whether there was a small boat that slowly sail the length of the rugged coast to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

Ciao Mike, I always take responsability if I do something wrong. But in this case it's not me, my company did not operate your tour. I do private tours only (by minivan) and be sure that I charge more than what you paid. Please post your complaint in the website of the company which provided the tour of 5 Terre. Thanks Umberto

This was our last full day in Italy and we were really looking forward to seeing Cinque Terre and getting some exercise before the long flight home. Our guide, Johnny, was extremely loud [he is a rap DJ - which came as no surprise] and a bit obnoxious. He kept stressing how many steps there were and if we wanted to back out now... rather annoying. The hike was not all that difficult although there are a lot of steps and the footing is uneven. The views were worth it despite the overcast day. Taking the train and then the boat added some variety. It was a long day, left at 8AM and returned at 8:30. We're glad we went, but did not care for the guide.
