About
The Acquario di Genova was built on the occasion of the Expo ’92, a celebration of the fifth centenary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus, with the intention of restructuring and enhancing an area full of history and traditions, located in the heart of Genoa’s historic centre, the Porto Antico (the old port). It’s the biggest aquarium in Europe.

Even though they are basically prisons for animals, I love well kept aquariums, and the one in Genoa is one of the best I have so far been lucky to visit.

If you dont like standing in queues and dont want to have huge amounts of people (including many children) with you in the aquarium, avoid the weekends at all costs. I guess everybody is different, but for me, standing in line for more than an hour, to enter a place with a lot of people, many of them screaming, crying etc., is not at all what I am looking for. You want to reserve your entering time online. Choose a time early in the morning, and not on the weekend, so that you will able to enjoy the really wonderful aquarium the way it should be enjoyed.

RACCOMANDATISSIMO!

What an amazing experience! Worth all the money ! Beautiful aquarius with fish and sea creatures from all over the world! If fully enjoyed the visit will last around 3 hours!
On Wednesday is not crowded at all and people with residence in Liguria are entitled to have 50% discount!
Animals and creatures are healthy and well fed, pools are clean and well kept, despite smaller than I thought - doesn't seem to affect animals though.
Perfect place to spend the day, enjoying and learning! Also perfect for families, couples and friends!
There is the possibility to have a break at the cafe to get a coffee or to enjoy your lunch surrounded by the beautiful and sunny old harbour!

SO RECOMMENDED!!! 😍

Very Nice, its big! but wearing a mask the entire time inside was very uncomfortable. Not the Museums fault of course but what the Museum could do is RAISE the air conditioner. It was very hot inside.
The museum is big but it's not that I have to come back in the future. Ok experience.

My wife and me have been desappointed after our visit.

There are way too many fishes in each aquarium => you can see a great number of dolphins (a dozen) in an aquarium too small for them which contributes to a lack of vivacity because they look sad.
Moreover, most people and especially children spend their time shouting and hitting the windows.

Then, during the visit, you can also watch reptiles and amphibians. This species need very specifical settings inside their terrariums => The chameleon was searching for heat and UV but there is no. UV light for him and the heat lamp was too high. Moreover, this animal needs a drip system to drink but once again there is none. To finish, such a terrarium should be made of fence instead of glass because a chameleon needs ventilation. Why is humidity/temperature level not checked ? This checking requires a particular device inside the terrarium that was obviously not provided.

I found this aquarium overcrowded, it looks like an amusement park with noise and children running and shouting all the time.

Positive point : variety of species.

To conclude : we don’t recommend this aquarium. It wasn’t the first time we visit an aquarium but this one has particularly saddened us.

We came today to Genova extra to visit the aquarium. We had our cat with us since we travel with it in our van :) Nobody told us anything, even though the staff saw the cat in the cat bag. 30 minutes in, a staff member told us no cat allowed, but if we close the cat bag, it’s ok, what we immediately did. Five minutes later, another member of the staff came.... and kicked us out of the aquarium ! We didn’t know that animals weren’t allowed inside. Of course, we can understand that, even though we never encountered such a problem anywhere else. But our cat was safe in the bag and didn’t disturb anybody. The worst part in all that was that the staff was very rude and unfriendly during the whole time, they also barely spoke English correctly. And if you count that some fishes have quite small aquariums, that it can be very crowded, especially on the weekend, I wouldn’t recommend to visit, much more I would advise to avoid it, especially for 27€

I never made it into the aquarium. I paid with a bank card, the amount was deducted. I wasn’t given the entry tickets because “the computer said no” Nobody spoke a word English, German, French or Dutch. I could show them (eventually I got to speek to the manager) my bank app with the deducted amount. They were just waiving and saying no no no. I found the manager and his help at the counter rude and obnoxious. Not something I would expect from the kind people of Genova,

Price didn’t match the experience. The statement that it is the biggest aquarium in Europe is completely made up. I love zoos and aquariums, but this one was poure dissapointment. The price and marketing really hipes you up, but then you walk in and there is so much unused space, aquariums are small. Some parts of the aquarium were under reconstruction, that made a trip shorter, some aquariums were being cleaned or fixed and for the most time it felt like very cheap aquarium.

There were several things which you should consider before going to the Acquario Di Genova:

- Bad visitor management: We had to wait half an hour in the rain to get in. And still: There were so many people that you couldn't see most of the attractions. It was impossible to keep a reasonable distance to other people. We felt very uncomfortable.
- Horrible conditions: It horrifierd me how little space the animals had. Especially the penguins and the dolphins. You don't need an expert to see that this is anything but animal friendly.
- Overpriced: We paid 27 Euros per person. I wouldn't visit it again even if they gave me free tickets.

This is the definition of a tourist trap. I hope you'll reconsider your visit after reading my review. There's much better things to do with your time in Genova.

We booked our tickets in advance and arrived at 9:30 (no queue), body temp taken at entrance. It wasn't too busy with only a handful of noisy children to distract us.

We got to see dolphins doing tricks, snakes, penguins, manatees, piranha and much more.

Theres a one way system in effect so you come across signs which are meant to be read in conjunction with others which you can't get access too until you are on the way back.

Great day out, but we did see a big queue upon exit and there were even lucky lucky men waiting to con you in the building itself near the exit, BEWARE

Even though some of the exhibits were closed for renovation we were able to spend most of our morning enjoying the exhibits that were open. It is a fairly big aquarium that had it's own cafe and restaurant. Our favorite part of the exhibit was the dolphin show. It would have been nice to be able to sit but being that it's right infront of the main walkway connecting two buildings, that's not possible. Another plus is that the aquarium surrounded by a plaza full of restaurants, an EATALY, boat cruises, a children's museum and a skating rink that my son enjoyed. further down there is a maritime museum that we didn't get to see. In the summer they open a pool nearby. There is ample parking and many places to shop nearby as well. Definitely a must see if you happen to be in Genoa.
