Il Santuario di Soviore was a great home base for hiking in the Cinque Terre. The rooms are simple but clean, with views of the sea from high up above Monterosso al Mare. There is no aircon but up in the hills the air is fresh. I had dinner at the Santuario the night I stayed and the carb-filled menu was great fuel for hiking the next day.

Santuario di Soviore is situated at the very top of the mountain ridge high above Monterosso. There is a road that passes nearby, but I recommend hiking up from the village. This is a very steep climb but only takes about 45 minutes one-way. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, good hiking shoes, and carry drinking water. There are some slippery places on the trail, and in one place, a huge boulder that has fallen from overhead partially blocks the path. We hiked many trails in Cinque Terre, and this is the only one where we saw only one other person on the way up. If you like solitude, this is a trail you will definitely enjoy. When you get to the Sanctuary, you can go inside and enjoy the peaceful, quiet atmosphere. There is also a bar and restaurant where you can enjoy a drink, coffee, sandwiches, and some very lovely desserts.

Very beautiful little chapel in Monterosso! The exterior is unassuming, but once I opened the door, I was enthralled by the chandeliers, the floor and the altar. Plus, the sun was gleaming through the stained glass windows - so it was very impressive visually.

Over 2 Hours up hill almost all steps. Very challenging but very rewarding!
Gorgeous views and a beautiful historic Montessori. Walk downhill towards Vernassi twice as difficult!

We came to Cinque Terre for the wine and hiking and didn’t get to the hiking until our last day. This was well worth the effort. It is not an easy hike, in fact, it is a good hour of up-hill climbing but well worth the view once you get there. Wear good shoes and light clothes. I brought a camelback water bladder and towel because of the heavy humidity. It’s a beautiful hike with blackberries, small plumbs and wild pears along the trail. Well worth the effort.

Most of the people has to trek for 2 hours from the bottom of Monterosso Al Mare. We have the privilege to stay 2 minutes walking distance from B&B I Lecci di Soviore. What a treat! Inside the church you can find a lot of beautiful art works and statue of Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus. Beautiful but not as impressive as those in Rome or other parts of Italy but it has its own uniqueness by being the highest church above sea level I ever visited...472 meters to be exacted. Surrounding by a beautiful scenery, Forrest, mountain and ocean, this old church has the best view ever. Good environment for family!Nice temperature for you to walk around, good environment for meditation or perhaps just having a picnic. There also a restaurant nearby as well if sitting down in a restaurant is better for you.

This is a lovely old church at the top of a steep climb from Monterosso. The hike is quite challenging, though worth the effort!

It was refreshing to see such a small chapel with so much beauty and NO CROWDS after being in Florence at the Duomo. It is typically open during daytime hours. Sometimes there are people inside praying, sometimes it's completely empty. It's so pretty!
