I really liked Piazza Libertà in Udine, the Venetian style details it,
the statues are an open-air museum: the column with the lion symbol of the Serenissima, the column with the statue of justice, the statues of Hercules and Cacus, the statue of peace from the Treaty of Campoformido, the Carrara fountain, the superlative Loggia del Lionello, the Arco Bollani and the Clock Tower. A magnificence.

The "Piazza della Libertà" has a Venetian clock tower like in Venice. On the Torre dell' Orologio, two Moors strike the hours.
It is a central square with the white and pink striped Loggia del Lionello in the finest Venetian Gothic style, which was built between 1448 and 1456. Opposite is the Porticato San Giovanni arcade with baroque statues. Then you can see the Arco Bollani, a memorial arch that was built in the middle of the 16th century by Andrea Palladio and of course the obligatory lion, which can be seen several times in the square.

It was a surprise. Human scale, clean and welcoming. The still present lights created a fairytale atmosphere. The shutters on the windows are characteristic. Superb square with two loggias. I was sorry not to be able to visit the Tina Mootti and Palladium exhibition due to lack of time. I was just passing through.

The square is unique, not very large but contains monuments of considerable value and in excellent condition.
I mention some monuments, the Town Hall, the steles with the Lion of the Serenissima and with Justice, the Loggia del Lionello and San Giovanni one opposite the other but completely different, the Carrara fountain, the Clock Tower which is very reminiscent of the of Venice in Piazza S. Marco.
Even this square alone is worth a visit to the city.

While this piazza is probably the most spectacular place of the city indeed, especially due to the wonderful Venetian style city hall, I have to write more about the city as a whole and how welcoming and comfortable we found it.
If you are looking to take only one small bite of Italian sightseeing, if you are not prepared for (or are already sick of) the hassle and the tourist hordes of Venice or Rome, just come to Udine. While this city is a perfect sample of the Italian history and today's way of life -- you get to see the locals live their normal lives, taking their siesta in the piazzas --, it is not so badly infested with tourists and the tourism business as the bigger and more famous Italian cities. Highly recommended.

Very well maintained venetian style palace and a nice square. The city center where you can go shopping and meeting people.

It's an intersection of streets, not a meeting point or a SQUARE. It's nice and it is important historically, but in less than a minute you have seen it all. There is nothing that makes headlines

This imponent square has some elements which recall about Venice, such as the decorations of the palaces and the winged lions. However, it’s a fantastic point to start your tour of the pretty (and underrated) town of Udine.

nice square in the city center of Udine, with well maintained buildings. Up on the hill, there is the castle. On the square a magnificent bell tower. In the evening, the locals come here to walk around. Not to be missed !
