If your point of reference is the Canal Grande in Venice then you may be a little disappointed with the Trieste version. It's really just a small channel of water, although there are some attractive buildings around. A quick visit is more than enough.

The canal is a nice little spot to take in some gelato (as long as you can find some shade) Serene and peaceful there are plenty of venues to choose from.

If you are going to enjoy Trieste then you should certainly include the canal in your plans. It is a very pretty area, lots of cafe and restaurants with seating beside it and a market on some days at the top. A very pretty area

We visited one night close to Christmas, and the whole area was beautifully lit and decorated. Both sides of the Canale Grande were lined with boats and there were plenty of restaurants and bars about. Just a really nice place to be and soak up...More

This canal is very picturesque and is traversed by two bridges, one of them being very attractive. It is lined on both sides with cafes and restaurants and some beautiful buildings.

The right place for having a coffee or something to eat when you're walking through the city in a hot summer day.

Well worth a look. Nice water ways. Nice strolls around the city. Be careful with the locals. We think we nearly had our bag stolen. Some very dodgy people in the city. It's a shame unemployment is so high.

This is a nice place to visit and take a walk around. It doesn't take long and is probably the best or second best thing to do in the city

The canal is nice to see, but not really a highlight. The buildings and also the canal as such are not very special.

Its name is most probably after the Canale Grande in Venice, but not to compare with it. It is a small channel with coffe chops and restaurants on the shores, two churches and some beautiful palaces around.
