Even if the first part of the valley was destroyed by an unregulated tree cutting operation, the further inside the walking will go the better; suggested is "Locanda da Mario" at Draga S.Elia a must for every daypacker hiking in Val Rosandra. Either for a quick stop or for a full meal it is worth a visit.

Val Rosandra is like Trieste: rugged, rough, but full of history, love and a bit of nostalgia for a past that was better than the present. Val Rosandra is the Mountain spot in Trieste; if you look for some free climbing, trekking or cycling this is the spot for you. Rock climbing started there in the '30 and hasn't stopped since. Nice peaceful place.

Sadly, many of the trees in the lower part of the valey have been cut down and people who knew the valley before cry outrage, but for those like me who are seeing it for the first time it is still a very beautiful place. Wild goats climb on the hill side, and the falls at the head of the... More
