A short drive of about 20 minutes from Trieste city centre. Interesting castle on history of an emperor in the past. Worth visit.

Albeit a grey and rainy day, the Castle of Miramare is a wonderful side trip to enjoy the gardens and to learn the history of Maximilian of Hapsburg and his wife. The furnished rooms provide a glimpse into their life. I would have liked a little more historical information on Maxilimilan and the Hapsburg in Trieste and his ill-fated trip... More

Maximillian's folly on his path to being shot as emperor of Mexico or a place of beauty. ... or both. Certainly well worth the 7km drive from Trieste.

We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Miramare so that we could take a leisurely walk along the seaside to Miramare Castle while our car was parked at the hotel car park, it was a romantic stroll after breakfast indeed! Some earlier TA reviews mentioned that watching sunset at the castle was equally romantic. The garden right before the castle was... More

Even if you do not go into the Castle, walking stood the garden areas is well worth the visit. After visiting the gardens, walk along the Barcola back toward Trieste for fine ocean views and people watching.

This former residence of Maximilian is quite a fine look at the tastes of the Hapsburgs but also and interesting view of a gentleman who appears to have lived quite an inter sting and productive early 20th century life, the Duke d'Aosta. I enjoyed learning something about him also. It's a beautiful setting with an emphasis on cultivating nature.

We passed by and stopped to check the castle, then we remained almost 2 hours cause it was very nice. Both the sea view and the gardens were amazing. Try to get there in the sunset, the atmosphere is cool

One of the best things that Trieste has to offer! The gardens are nice for walking and relaxing and the view is stunning. You can easily spent few hours there. Inside the castle is a museum that shows us how the "original" rooms looked like. Most of the things are in Italian, but there are some English explanations. In October... More

Take 3-4 hours and enjoy. Choose a sunny day and take a walk around the castle. You can find the information about the planning and making of the castle and park inside. The inside is really interesting and worth to see.
