A beautiful location for a castle, just a few minutes drive from Trieste. Steep walking from the castle upwards in to the park. Popular with the jogging locals. Go visit.

I visited Trieste to see my niece who was there and had no expectations. It certainly wasn't in one of those tourist magazines or destinations regularly offered so to find a normal 'not so touristy' yet beautiful place with lots of bars ad restaurants was brilliant for me. A charming place with people walking dogs, relaxing listening to live music... More

This castle looks across the waters to Venice and has an extensive history of change. It is easy to access -no steps and surrounded by beautiful gardens containing many rare plants not seen anywhere in Italy and with a view to die for! On the left of the castle is a long promenade of beach goers and little cafes and... More

Miramare is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Trieste and is worth a visit if you find yourself in the area. Relatively young, by castle standards, Miramare offers breath-taking views of the sea, wonderfully manicured gardens, and a beautiful home that once housed the Archduke Maximilian of Austria. His story alone is the stuff of legend and the castle... More

The best way of arriving is by boat. There is a regular, but not very frequent ferry from Trieste which hops down the coast from the quay near the big Piazza. After sailing past the castle, with lots of sea views of this wedding-cake of a building, you arrive at the terminus of the more prosaic no.6 bus. From here,... More

It seems the Lonely Planet has Got it Right. Trieste in general and Miramare Castle specifically are definitely worth a visit. And fortunately for us, the current visitors, bóth seem to be underrated so there are no overwhelming gangs of tourists yet. The almost normal local life Can yet continue flourishing though even that causes the parking problems;-) Trieste shows... More

I had a very enjoyable wander around the castle ground and enjoyed looking at the sea surrounding it as swimming and fishing are banned. Nice shady spots for a picnic, cafe is nice but expensive and some pretty sculptures dotted about!

The park is a bit run down but still majestic. The building is remarkable. Walk to the sfings at the sea where poor Carlotta was waiting for her prince who was in Mexico and later killed. The coffee shop is not to be adviced. But take your swimming suits and swim in the cleanest water just before entering the park.... More

The Castle is in a park, which itself is a good place to visit. The Castle is reachable at the end of the Line 6 bus and up a small hill, but does not explain tons of the history of why the castle was built where it was, and what Maxmillian did with his life. The downstairs rooms are better... More
