Following an accident in August this tram is not running, but there is a replacement bus. The journey is well worth making. We had a pleasant lunch in Opicina and then walked along the well marked path to Prosseco. Beautiful views across Trieste and the sea. It is an easy walk across mainly flat ground.

If you dont want to bother find a parking in Trieste city centre and enjoy a ride - its perfect for you. Make sure to purchase tickets in a bar right next to the tram station.

I have ridden this tram many times; unfortunately, it was not running in Sept due to a collision which happened a couple of months ago. If it's running it's definitely worth the trip up to Opicina. You will have amazing views!

This tram route runs from Piazza Oberdan to Opicina. As the tram climbs towards Opicina, you get amazing views of the city of Trieste. On part of the route, the old tram is powered by over head electric cables and on the steeper part of the climb, it's pulled up the hill by steel cables. From Opicina it's possible to... More

The best way to travel to LjubLjana. Forget the bus, take this tram to Villa Opicina, then walk for 5 minutes to the train station. The station looks deserted, but is in fact serviced regularly by Slovenian trains that cross the border to get to this station. Pay on the train, and sit back for a scenic ride to Ljubljana.

We loved the trip up the mountain on this historic tramway. The views of the city, the bay and the villages on the way were stunning. At the top we choose to explore the locale, found some interesting shops and a wonderful chocolatier. We bought a selection of superb chocolates which we enjoyed while sitting outside in the sun.

I was so looking forward to taking this historic tram from Trieste to Opicina. However there was a front-end collision between two trams in August 2016, and there is no telling when tram service will be restored. The only options now are a bus which runs along a less steep route or a taxi. I hope the tram service is... More

If you want to visit Opicina this is the best way to travel. The traditional tram offers a slow but steady climb of the steep tracks up the hill while offering a splendid panoramic view of the gulf of Trieste and the city. The tram itself is wonderful, with its wooden chairs and antique atmosphere.

The review only gets 4 out of 5 because the Tram wasn't operational on the day we visited ( Sept 2016) . However this lead to a great discovery , a nice and easy walk of about 5KM to Prosecco via the Strada Napoleonic, with a lot of stunning views on the way ( as well as double meaning references...
