Charming trolley

For very little money you can take a ride up to the top of the hill overlooking Trieste. It is very unusual if you have an hour to just relax and enjoy the view.

Stopped at the obelisk stop and walked the "napoleonic roads" for a bit, offer good hiking trails. Walked around town but unfortunately mid day so many stores closed. If I knew, I would do in the morning to get exercise and stop in town for lunch. Easy tram, locals mostly but easy to navigate. Beautiful views of Trieste. Visited on... More

This is the cutest thing ever! For €1,35 you get a ticket that is valid for 4 hours and you travel in an old-fashioned tram! Ideal if you are tired from walking around and just want to enjoy some sightseeing while sitting, but also if you want to avoid the busy-buzzing city for a little. We got out at the... More

A cheap way to see the fantasctic views over Trieste. Buy tickets in the tabacconist by the terminus in piazza Oberdan. Changes into a furnicular for the steepmclimb part way up.

This is a very fun trip to do! Tickets are 1.50euro ish per person, with an hour on offer per ticket. You can pick them up from the cafe/shop where the tram departs from Trieste - or from the hotel opposite, Albergo all a Posta. Validate your ticket!! About 20-25mins in you will get to The Obelisk - take the... More

This is a working, very old, form of mass transit. Beautiful views as you climb. It is not really a "tourist attraction" though, so be very clear about where you want to get off (its probably not the very last stop).

Taking the tramway/funiculare from Trieste to Opicina was a fun and inexpensive little outing. Some great views of the Adriatic and the city along the way. From Opicina we took a taxi (difficult to find there) to Sezana, where we boarded a train to Ljubljana.

A charming tram with quite uncomfortable seats, but worth doing. It takes about an hour up and down. I am not sure it is worth getting off at the top because I dont think there is anything in particular to do there accept look at the view. We just went up and back down which was fun in itself.

It is a bit of a challenge to discover how/where to buy the tickets, but for the price (1,2€) you get a ride with the most beautiful views over trieste and the sea. Even if it's crowded, the wide windows provide enough sight, and the path is spetacular. At the top, Bar Vatta offers amazing desserts and coffee <3
