This was an easily negotiated, edge of town train station, with no stairs to go up and down.
We walked to it from our hotel in under 10 minutes. We were delighted as when we went to buy our return tickets to Venice the smiling young lady spoke perfect English and was able to answer all our travel questions.
When you buy tickets you have a window of train times you may take so it’s not just jump on any train going your way. So just be alert. And the polite staff are fastidious about checking tickets aboard the train.
It was an 100 mile each way journey to Venice Santa Lucia and back at an hour and 15 minutes each way - 15 euro each way per person - 2nd class. No first class offered but the scenic views were priceless. I’ve never travelled first class in Italy but I’m curious to try it.
The Trieste station has a fairly big cafe serving a good range of reasonably priced food and drinks and the signage was easily read and followed.
If you are more comfortable with technology then there are plenty of machines to buy tickets with a selection of languages available but we do prefer dealing with human beings especially as pleasant as the staff we encountered.
It was a grand day out.

Had to catch the high speed to Milano. Station very central.
Station clean with a few cafeterias.
Was not crowded. Station clean, signs and information clear no need to ask for help. Train was on time too

We arrived at this train station on a day-trip from Venice, about a 2-hour ride away. There are frequent connections with Venice, so Trieste is quite easy to reach from there. But the station likewise welcomes high-speed, inter-city and regional trains from elsewhere. Buses also arrive and depart from the station.
Though a transportation hub, the station remains fairly small and compact. It does offer basic needs for passengers, such as a waiting area, clean pay toilets, places to eat and some shops. It lacked, however, the one office we expected to be there -- tourist information. Luckily, we found a station customer-care representative, who gave us directions on how to reach an information office in the Old Town's main square (Piazza Unita d'Italia), about a 15-minute walk away.
We found the building to be clean and welcoming. It was renovated 13 years ago and has been kept up nicely.

A historical building from outside and inside makes a good impressions of this railway station.it is easy to find at Piazza della Liberta almost in the center of Trieste. It is connected with many local bus lines and close to Main bus station with IC buses.I noticed very often train connection with Venice by fast and local trains. Also connected with IC train with Milano and Rome. You can ride with very fast train such a series Freccia. It is good start point to visit Udine or Ljubljana.

The trip from Udine to Trieste and back was great. Trains left on time and arrived exactly on time.
The train station in Trieste is very nice, architecture beautiful, customer service people who speak in English, and clean.
We used the toilet facilities for women, and the toilet area was kept clean, and free of ‘drifters’ by having a fee of 1€ , and the area was spacious.
The train platforms are on the same level as the station, so there was no carrying bags up and down stairs, much better than in Udine.
The location is central to the center of the city, approximately 10-15min walk to the main square.
Bricocafe, inside the station, was adequate but the glass surround around the cafe was in need of a good cleaning, inside and outside.
Outside the station there was several people, mostly men sitting on the ground, probably homeless. Not an unusual scene near train stations in Europe today.

Trieste or Trst can’t live without railway station. Railway between Trst and Wien was the main axis of Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is modernized inside and it keeps a nostalgic architecture from outside. Station has all essential functions and facilities but no special other things. It is useful when you travel to central Italy.

The small rather sweet end of 19th century building was the passenger terminal of the Austrian railway line which linked Trieste to Vienna.
The interior has been done up in modern, rational no frills style. It has a small supermarket open week ends and bank holidays.
The paying toilets are in desperate need of a face lift : you will not find many places in Trieste with squatting down loos.

It is a terminus station. You should get round the ends of all the platforms on the flat level.

Is the waiting area open all night, I would like to book a train at 04.25 but would arrive at 01,18. Is there anywhere to wait three hours at that time of the morning.
