Working church. Bright and airy compared to many old churches in Italy.
Go to mass. Go to confession. Go and just hangout.
I liked it. I needed it after the museum of torture…

The present church was built in 1836 on the site of a previous church. The church has been built to a Neoclassical design and I mean classical in the most classical way possible. The front of the church has an octastyle portico of Corinthian columns. The interior of the church consists of three naves, separated by sixteen columns, also of Corinthian order. There’s also a semicircular ambulatory around the high altar, although it was gated shut on the day of the visit. The central nave is roofed by a barrel vault, coffered and decorated with floral sculptures. Side chapels line the other two naves. Although none of the chapel are particularly outstanding, the chapel of sacrament is noteworthy for the bronze sculpture of Christ Arisen. Another noteworthy chapel is the Chapel of the Resurrection (or Mary Magdalene) with a painting depicting Noli me tangere when Mary Magdalene recognises the resurrected Jesus.

A beautiful yet simple church. Well worth a visit even if not religious. Love the architecture and high ceilings plus the paintings and sculptures.

The interior of this imposing religious site is beautiful with a classical style décor and chilling atmosphere. Amazing statues and paintings are aplenty. Free to enter. Well worth the effort to get there.

This neoclassical style basilica is a simple design compared to many of the ornate basilicas. It is dedicated to Saint Marinus, the founder and patron of the Republic. Entry is free.

Neoclassical temple, located in the center of San Marino. A basilica dedicated to the patron saint of the city of San Marino. From the outside, a beautiful pediment with columns is striking, while the interior looks ascetic or even modest. However, there is an amazing beauty in this simplicity. Beautiful main altar and side altars. A wonderful temple in its simplicity.

Surely it isn't the best church of the world, in my opinion, inside is quite bare, but it is free to enter, so why not.

On a relatively quick tour of San Marino, we were able to visit inside the Basilica right after a Sunday Mass (no entrance allowed during services). It is a simple design compared to many of the ornate basilicas in Europe. Large in size.
Interior was well appointed and worth a visit and a short respite before tackling the uphill streets to follow.

The basilica is much simpler than the traditional churches, but is an impressive size and has some beautiful displays.
